Jumping up with an idea!

We hope that this will be a very important meetup for everyone to attend, as it may affect the future of the Wikimedia community in New England. We will discuss current activities already going on in the region, including the regular Boston meetup schedule, the Wikipedia education program, and GLAM collaborations. We will also share ideas about future events and how we can become more organized. This is not an administrative meeting; it will be informal, and primarily chance to socialize in person with others from the area. There will be free food provided for attendees. All ages and wiki experience levels are welcome.

If you haven't attended a meetup in a while (or ever), this one is important!

Background

edit

In New York and DC, the local Wikimedian communities have already organized into official chapters (Wikimedia New York City and Wikimedia DC). This allows the local volunteers to make official contacts to institutions on behalf of a recognized organization, to be able to collect and spend money for events and equipment, and to generally support the local Wikimedia community in its efforts. The DC community even organized Wikimania 2012!

We don't know whether New England has enough interest and participation to work towards a formal organization in the short-term, but this meeting is an opportunity for everyone to get involved in some capacity and help us do cool, fun stuff in our region.

  4. I'm pissed, since I really wanted to meet some people at the Wiknic, but got there late and couldn't find where people had moved. And now I've headed back to my birthplace for an internship; if I'd known, I might've delayed it another week. Sigh. Anyways, though, I'm sure I'll be back up North someday, so keep me posted. — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 03:53, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Sorry I'll be out of town this weekend. I'm very interested in talking about GLAM-Wiki possibilities. Our museum will posting for a Wikipedian in Residence soon and I'd love to start those conversations soon. --Erodley (talk) 18:58, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
