Mike Shirkey
Mike Shirkey (Republican Party) was a member of the Michigan State Senate, representing District 16. He assumed office on January 1, 2015. He left office on January 1, 2023.
Shirkey (Republican Party) ran for re-election to the Michigan State Senate to represent District 16. He won in the general election on November 6, 2018.
Shirkey served as State Senate Majority Leader from 2019 to 2023.
Shirkey served in the Michigan House of Representatives, representing District 65 from 2011 to 2015.
Biography
Shirkey earned his bachelor's degree from General Motors Institute (GMI) in 1978 and his M.S in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1979. His professional experience includes working as the owner of Orbitform, an engineering company that manufactures forming, fastening, joining and assembly equipment; and for General Motors in various management and engineering roles.

Elections for the Michigan State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election was held on August 5, 2014, and a general election took place on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was April 22, 2014. Kevin Commet was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Mike Shirkey was unopposed in the Republican primary. Shirkey defeated Commet in the general election.[1][2][3][4]

2010
Shirkey won election to the District 65 seat in 2010. He defeated Sharon Renier and Joe Rokicsak in the August 3 Republican primary. He defeated Janet Rochefort (D) in the general election on November 2, 2010.[6][7]
