Jose Javier Rodriguez
Jose Javier Rodriguez (Democratic Party) was a member of the Florida State Senate, representing District 37. He assumed office on November 8, 2016. He left office on November 3, 2020.
Rodriguez (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the Florida State Senate to represent District 37. He lost in the general election on November 3, 2020.
Rodriguez was a 2018 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 27th Congressional District of Florida.[1] Rodriguez withdrew from the race in April 2018.[2]
Rodriguez served in the Florida House of Representatives, representing District 112 from 2012 to 2016.
Biography
Jose Javier Rodriguez received his B.A. from Brown University in I.R. Political Economy of Development in 2000. He went on to receive his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2006. His work experience includes being an attorney. Rodriguez also served as vice-chair for the Miami-Dade Legislative Delegation, a member of the Citizens Transportation Advisory Committee, a member of the Community Relations Board, and a Business Advising Volunteer for the Peace Corps. He received Advocate for the Venezuelan Community Award from Casa de Venezuela Orlando, the Recognition Award "for your immense work and cooperation" from Mobile Home Council of Miami, Florida, the LULAC Florida Directors Award, and the Best Politician Award from the Miami New Times in 2019.[3]

The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 20, 2014. Incumbent Jose Javier Rodriguez was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Daniel Diaz Leyva was unopposed in the Republican primary. Rodriguez defeated Leyva in the general election.[8][9]
