Anime: Five Star Stories

I actually downloaded this OVA becouse it was featured in an AMV and it got me a little curious.

I have to agree with themug that it can be a little confusing, as we are just dropped in the universe with little (or none) explanation. It looks as if there were meant to be more episodes.

1. Animation
The animation quality is extremely well done, even if the chara design nowdays looks a bit odd.

2. Sound
The voice acting is ok, i guess... So is the music.

3. Story
It can be confusing at first, but i'd say that as soon as you stop thinking "why is that?" "how does that work?" and just accept it that things are the way they are, you'll be ok.

4. Character
So, you have this beautifull woman, and... oh, wait she's a he. So, you have this bishouen who has a dark destiny looming somewhere in the future, because some other guy didn't do what it was considered normal to do, and... oh for heaven's sake, just watch it, the plot's quite interesting.

5. Enjoyment
So, you have brave women, beautifull men, and big mechas... what more do you want? Of course you also have ugly and perverted bad guys, but who cares?

The OVA has some nice moments, and is quite a good break from all those brand-new-full-of-cg-remakes-of-old-ideas that seem to be coming out lately. Even if they are nice brand-new-full-of-cg-remakes-of-old-ideas.

A terribly confused OVA. It is all in bits and pieces, new characters popping out of nowhere anytime, always hinting at a background you are never told. The whole concept of the "Fatimas" is never fully explained and still does not make sense.

No part of the many pieces is ever explored or deepened. So neither the mecha aspect, the romance or the politics / war are anywhere near worthwile.

Does not fit any fan of any genre because of all the confusion. Do not watch it if you are not on drugs. Maybe then your fogged brain will add enough to make it into something interesting.
