Krichevskoy, the king of devils, died.

The news of the great king, who had ruled the Devil World for a long time, traveled among other worlds. Soon, it got around all over the Devil World. Taking this opportunity, ambitious daemons, who had smoldered with their complaints, rose one after another. Then the Devil World turned into the age of rival chiefs. Two years have passed since then...

And after a two year slumber, Laharl, the prince of the Netherworld, finds the Netherworld in chaos after the death of his father, King Krichevskoy. Not wasting any time, Laharl, with the help of his father's former vassal Etna, sets out to conquer the Netherworld and proclaim himself Overlord.

I dont get why this anime got such shitty rating. It is awesome. Main character is bad guy wholeheardly, and almost to the end. I haven't seen such good game based anime ever (till Steins;Gate). Not bad animation, not bad plot, it's not too long so not boring. I recommend it to any anime fan, couse it is rly surprisingly good.

Disgaea was an amusing show, far from great, but still decent.

Story
If you've played the game, you'll have a good idea how this works. The show stays pretty true to the game's storyline, but it diverges from time to time in order to do a better job creating entertaining situations. It's not deep, it's not all that creative, but it's not boring either.

It progresses well from episode to episode, building towards the inevitable confrontation while keeping things light on their feet. I give it one extra bonus point for pacing itself well and seldom if ever boring me.

Character
You won't find any deep, amazing characters here, but they still work fairly well within themselves. The chemistry between them all, from the "evil" Laharl to the scheming Etna to the over-the-top innocent Flonne to the humorously incompetant Defenders of Earth. They do a good job fitting them together in fun and entertaining ways. They may be stereotypes, but they're fun stereotypes.

Animation
They brought over the look from the game almost entirely, and that's not a great thing. It's not that there isn't detail, or that the characters are poorly drawn, it's just that everything looks and feels flat, like they're 2-D characters trying to fit into a 3-D world.

Sound
The OP and ED are decent though nothing special. I thought the voice acting was pretty solid, though, especially the whiny voice of Flonne, as well as Laharl's voice, which conveys the fact that he is trying to be maniacal but can never pull it off.

Value
There weren't any terrible episodes, and some of them were worth at least a second viewing.

Enjoyment
Despite the fact that this clearly wasn't the greatest show ever, I nonetheless had fun watching it. I knew where it was going, and I anticipated a fair number of the jokes and humorous situations, but found myself laughing nonetheless.

Disgaea shouldn't be at the top of anyone's list, but it's not a bad show, and you might really enjoy it. And for a show based on a videogame, that's saying a heck of a lot.
