He lived at Gabriel Cottage, Tunstall, Lancashire, England.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)3 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.)1 He was educated at Royal Naval College, Darmouth, Devon, England.2 He fought in the Second World War, when he became a POW, including a spell at Colditz.2 He wrote the book A Sailor's Survival, published 1997.2
