William Gordon of Earlston was born in 1614.1 He was the son of Alexander Gordon of Earlston and Elizabeth Gordon.2 He married Mary Hope, daughter of Sir John Hope of Craighall, 2nd Bt., on 26 November 1648.1 He died on 22 June 1679, killed in action.1

Mary Hope was the daughter of Sir John Hope of Craighall, 2nd Bt.2 She married William Gordon of Earlston, son of Alexander Gordon of Earlston and Elizabeth Gordon, on 26 November 1648.1 She died in 1696.1

Sir Alexander Gordon of Earlston and Afton, 2nd Bt. was born in 1650.1 He is the son of William Gordon of Earlston and Mary Hope.2 He married, firstly, Janet Hamilton, daughter of Sir Thomas Hamilton of Preston, on 16 November 1676.1 He married, secondly, Hon. Marion Gordon, daughter of Alexander Gordon, 5th Viscount Kenmure, on 8 March 1698.1
He fought in the Battle of Bothwell Bridge in 1679, after which he escaped to Holland.1 On 19 February 1681 he was declared guilty of treason in absentia and sentenced to death and forfeiture of his estates.1 On 21 August 1683 he was captured at sea and ordered beheaded but pardoned and after 6 years' imprisonment in Edinburgh Castle, on the Bass Rock and in Blackness Castle, was released on 5 Jan 1689.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Gordon, of Earlston and Afton, co. Kirkcudbright [N.S., 1706] in December 1718.1
