Vietnam e-taxi company makes Jakarta debut

Vietnamese e-taxi brand Xanh SM has marked its Indonesian debut by launching its maiden fleet in Jakarta on Thursday, with plans to operate 10,000 EVs by next year and a possible expansion to Bali.

ietnam’s all-electric vehicle (EV) taxi company Green and Smart Mobility JSC (GSM), branded Xanh SM, launched its maiden operation in Indonesia on Wednesday.

On Dec. 19 in Jakarta, the company launched the VinFast Limogreen fleet of electric taxis (e-taxis) under its local entity PT XanhSM Green and Smart Mobility Indonesia, after a free trial of the taxi service from Dec. 10 to 17.

GSM chief executive Nguyen Van Thanh said in a statement on Wednesday that Indonesia was an “incredibly exciting market”.

Indonesia is the company’s second foreign market after Laos.

Xanh SM is the latest operator of e-taxi services in Indonesia, where an EV option has been available since 2019 from leading taxi operator Blue Bird.

As of the third quarter, Blue Bird operates an eco-friendly fleet of 3,500 natural gas vehicles and 200 EVs from China’s BYD, Tesla and Hyundai, Kontan.co.id reported in late October.
