Ward fights through to quarters; BOXING.

TEENAGER Jimmy Ward is leading Bulkington ABC's bid for national honours.

Four wins in four weeks have taken the 14 year-old through to the quarter finals of the Royal Navy Schoolboy championships at under-63kgs in Liverpool on Sunday, when he will meet Thomas Whitaker (Rotunda).

Ward trains at the club's new gym at the Sports Pavilion on Bulkington Rec with head coach and former Midlands professional champion Neil Tidman and will be brimming with confidence having won all eight of his contests.

His championship bid started with a points win over Heart of England ABC's Marcus Stewart, who had won eight of his ten previous contests, and he followed that by handing Marcus Scott (Bolsover) his second defeat in eight fights.

Ward went on to outpoint Connor Mitchell (Tom Lowe) in the Midlands final, then outpointed Karmand ABC's Barry Price in the pre-quarter finals in Barnsley.

Olly Knight is through to the Midlands final of the NACYP championships that will be held at the Standard Triumph on Sunday, while clubmate Connor Robson has been handed a bye through to the quarter finals.

Tommy Brown bowed out with a points defeat to Nathan Russo (Silverdale) after a cracking battle.
