Dear Principal Sobolewski,

It is with great anticipation that I present my resume for the upcoming school year at Rollings Middle School
of the Arts. I am so excited to begin my career in hopes of working with a group of educators that are
committed to creating a community of learning in Dorchester County Schools.
I am currently finishing my last semester at the University of South Carolina, where I have spent the last four
years studying to be an educator with inspiring professors and mentors. The University has provided me with
amazing opportunities to work with students in a wide variety of environments. I have had extensive field
work experience in several school districts and support programs such as Reading 180 and AVID, as well as
the mentoring programs at the Department of Juvenile Justice. Working with these programs has helped me
develop effective teaching strategies and instructional methods that I have implemented to educate all styles
of learners and foster an environment that encourages self-determination and creativity.
Whilst completing my degree at USC, I am also interning at Meadow Glen Middle School in Lexington
School District 1. Working with Mrs. Andrea Masten in the Accelerated 6 th Grade ELA department, I have
been exposed to exceptional examples of effective instruction, inspiring strategies, collaboration, and
professional development. I have incorporated technology in almost evert aspect of learning in the classroom
as we are a 1-to-1 iPad district. We are also an Expeditionary Learning School and so we are much more like
a family, united with the desire to be lifelong learners, rather than just a school filled with teachers and
students. In addition to the four wonderful class periods I teach every day, I am also co-leading a group of
eighteen 6th grade boys once a week in a program we call CREW, where we focus on strengthening
admirable character traits and citizenship. We are still in the process of progressing within the EL model;
adjusting and improving CREW curriculum, and analyzing the effectiveness of the Habits of Scholarship in
our school as a whole.
Prior to my internship I was a volunteer at South Carolinas Department of Juvenile Justice. I was privileged
to work with a unique group of adolescents that looked to me as a mentor. Taking on such a responsibility
was incredibly humbling, and not a day went by that I was not blown away by the creative, academic,
artistic, or athletic abilities shown in each young person with whom I came in contact. Being a part of the
volunteer program helped me eradicate all prejudices I may have held concerning a students ability based on
his or her background, familial or financial circumstances. It helped me realize that every child deserves to
be given the opportunity to excel.
This past summer as I worked as a Camp Counselor, I was introduced to a new philosophy on life and
learning and it has shaped my ideals on adolescent development and the true definition of success. Gwynn
Valley Camp has values rooted in simplicity, independence, resilience, and an appreciation for the natural
world. This experience taught me the importance of stepping out of ones comfort zone and inspiring others

to do the same. I saw a vast change in the campers attitudes and achievement during their brief time at
camp, and I firmly believe that such a transformation was brought about by the encouraging and structured
environment that surrounded them. I believe in cultivating the same type of environment and instilling the
same values in my classroom. Every child deserves someone who will never give up on them.
I am a huge advocate for creative expression through writing. Literacy is one of the most valuable skills in
this world. Words are powerful, and every child should be granted the opportunity and taught the techniques
that will allow him or her to mold their opinions and perspectives through reading. I believe that one of the
strongest assets that I have to offer is my passion for learning and my desire to impart that passion to my
students.
I am greatly inspired by the mission statement of Dorchester Countys schools and its dedication to leading
students to success. I think that I would be an excellent addition to your team of educators. I welcome the
opportunity to meet with you and discuss how my experience and skill set would benefit your academic
program. Thank you for your time and consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Hayley Crouch
