Alfred Aufdenblatten was a Swiss soldier who became renowned in the municipality of Zermatt as a mountain climber and ski guide. In 1924, however, he joined Denis Vaucher and brothers Alfons and Anton Julen in the military ski patrol event at the Winter Olympics and won a gold medal. Aufdenblatten also competed in the 50 km cross-country skiing event at these Games, but abandoned the race prior to completion.
