Wing and a Scare is a Duel minigame in Mario Party 8. Its name is a pun on the idiom "on a wing and a prayer," which refers to doing something with the hope of success even though there is little chance of it happening.

Introduction[edit]

Players act as airplane pilots and take off from a stone platform, flying forward through a city suspended in the air.

Gameplay[edit]

The objective is to reach the finish first. Players must use the Wii Remote to maneuver their planes through holes or openings of various shapes in a series of walls. As the minigame progresses, columns, floating landmasses, and rotating holes are introduced as obstacles. If a player hits an obstacle or trap, their plane rebounds. If both players make it to the goal at the same time or if five minutes pass, the minigame ends in a tie.

Ending[edit]

Unless there is a tie, the minigame ends with the winner flying through the city with confetti falling behind them.

Controls[edit]

  • Wii Remote: Tilt the plane
  • Buttons: None

In-game text[edit]

  • Rules"Tilt the wings of your plane as you try to clear the obstacles and reach the finish line first."
  • Hint"If you hit an obstacle or trap, your aircraft will rebound and you'll lose time!"
