Slipsand Galaxy is a galaxy in the game Super Mario Galaxy 2, located in World 5. The level is desert-themed and features desert objects such as cacti. Sand Rivers and fireballs are the main obstacles in the level. A pyramid can be seen in the background, but serves no special purpose. Dry Bones, Magikoopas and Pokey Heads are common enemies in this galaxy. The Fire Flower reappears in this galaxy and is used in the boss battle against Squizzard. At one point, Mario needs to avoid some Rhomps while sliding down sand.

Planets[edit]

Starting Planet[edit]

The title of this section is conjectural; an official name for the section's subject has not been found, so it has been given a fitting title by the editors. If an acceptable name is found, then the section should be changed to the new title.

Mario on the Starting Planet.

This is a long, tubular planet with a fast sand current. During the Squizzard's Sandy Sinkhole mission, the current is going with the player. Many fireballs circle the planet and many prickly plants serve as an impediment during the mission. The Launch Star takes the player to the Sandy Waterfall Planet. During the Sailing the Sandy Seas mission, the current is going against Mario. Luckily, there are platforms to allow the player to reach the Warp Pipe on the other side. If the player goes all the way to the very end in this mission, where the Launch Star was in the last mission, they find three 1-Up Mushrooms. The player must rapidly jump and spin to do this.[1] The Launch Star takes Mario to the Sandy Sea Planet during the mission. There is also an underground section with Fire Bars and gravity.

Sandy Fall Planet[edit]

The title of this section is conjectural; an official name for the section's subject has not been found, so it has been given a fitting title by the editors. If an acceptable name is found, then the section should be changed to the new title.

This is a fairly small square planet with a sand current that is going against the player. At the first part, there are a few shifting blocks that push the player off the planet. Many Pokey Heads appear on this planet. At the second area, it is an S-shaped stream with three Cluckbooms flying over it. The Comet Medal can be found in this area. There is a Fire Flower, even more Pokey Heads, and more shifting blocks in the next area. There is a Checkpoint Flag and a Launch Star that takes the player to the Sand Slide Planet at the top. There is also a Fire Flower that can be used to light two urns on the Sandy Waterfall Planet, but it's optional because lighting the urns just gives out a 1-Up Mushroom. There is a Black hole in the middle of the planet.

Sand Slide Planet[edit]

The title of this section is conjectural; an official name for the section's subject has not been found, so it has been given a fitting title by the editors. If an acceptable name is found, then the section should be changed to the new title.

The planet is basically one long sand stream coming out of the pyramid. The player must slide down the stream to the end while avoiding the Rhomps that appear halfway. It gets narrower towards the end of the stream. At the bottom of the slide is a small area with Lumalee, a Checkpoint Flag, and the Launch Star that takes the player to the Sinkhole Planet.

Squizzard's Sandy Sinkhole[edit]

Mario on Squizzard's Sandy Sinkhole.

The planet is a bowl-shaped planet filled with sand. The sand moves at a fast current towards the middle where Squizzard lies. The arena is fenced up and there are some rocks here that can serve as platforms. Two Fire Flowers appear here. When Squizzard is defeated, the sand stops flowing.

Zero Gravity Room Planet[edit]

The title of this section is conjectural; an official name for the section's subject has not been found, so it has been given a fitting title by the editors. If an acceptable name is found, then the section should be changed to the new title.

This planet appears during the second mission, manifesting as a room of stone bricks where the gravity changes to accomodate when Mario walks on a curved surface.

Sandy Sea Planet[edit]

The title of this section is conjectural; an official name for the section's subject has not been found, so it has been given a fitting title by the editors. If an acceptable name is found, then the section should be changed to the new title.

Mario approaching the Sandy Sea Planet.

This planet is only traveled to during the Sailing the Sandy Seas mission. It is a vast, wide open area filled with lethal Quicksand. The player needs to ride the Sand Bird on this planet to avoid falling into the quicksand. Many cacti are found here, which destroy parts of the ship, although the ship quickly regenerates any lost parts. Magikoopas and a single Homing Chomp are found on this planet as well. The Power Star is found at the end of the planet.

Prima Official Game Guide description[edit]

  • "The parched Slipsand Galaxy is a dangerous desert loaded with challenges like a giant sand slide and rolling Rhomps. Things get even trickier when you travel to a great expanse of the desert and must ride on the back of a bird that can disappear when it hazards...too bad you don't have the same skill."
