Light-Up-Lift
- This article is about the platform that illuminates dark areas in the New Super Mario Bros. games. For the smaller, identically-functioning block that can be carried, sometimes also called a Light Block, see Glow Block. For the light-elemental Baddie Blocks in Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition, see Baddie Block § Light Block.

Light-Up-Lifts, originally known as Light Blocks,[1] are block-like platforms in the Super Mario series that debuted in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. They occur in underground caves and illuminate the surrounding area when a nearby ? Switch is struck. Light-Up-Lifts are similar to Glow Blocks, identical-looking items also introduced in New Super Mario Bros. Wii that the player character can carry with them.
History[edit]
Super Mario series[edit]
New Super Mario Bros. Wii[edit]
In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Light Blocks are encountered in World 5-Ghost House only, in a pathway to the secret exit. They appear as moving nearly invisible blocks at first (which look similar to Empty Blocks from Super Mario World), but if Mario or any other character hits a nearby ? Switch, the blocks temporarily glow and keep moving. These blocks can be used for both lighting the way and means of transportation.
New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Luigi U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[edit]
Light Blocks are objects in New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, where they appear in Light Blocks, Dark Tower. While the Light Blocks in the second half of the course function as they do in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the Light Blocks in the first half of the course do not require a ? Switch to be activated. Instead, the blocks alternate between glowing state and near-invisible state automatically.
In New Super Luigi U, Light-Up-Lifts appear only in Light-Up-Lift Tower, introducing their current name. In this course, Light-Up-Lifts will light up indefinitely when players move into its vicinity, and the course starts with a pair of always-active Light-Up-Lifts that will move up towards the top when jumping on it, with more Light-Up-Lifts joining in along the way to create a large platform of Light-Up-Lifts.
Minecraft[edit]
In the Super Mario Mash-up in Minecraft, Redstone Lamps are replaced by Light-Up-Lifts.
