First appearance | Saturday Supercade ("Movie Mania") (1983) |
Clovis is an orangutan co-star appearing in the Saturday Supercade episode "Movie Mania." His name is a reference to American singer and actor Elvis Presley.
He first appears in Golden Studios, where Flint Westwood fires him and replaces him with Donkey Kong after he blames him for causing his last three films to bomb at the box office. After being launched into a trash can, Clovis, after looking at a newspaper advertising The Return of the Phantom, plots to get revenge on him and Donkey Kong, posing as the "Phantom."
He later appears at the first filming location, set in a bar, where he attempts to cut the ropes holding sandbags to drop them on Donkey Kong, though Donkey Kong dodges both of them.
At the second filming location, aboard a galleon, Clovis attempts to chop down the mast Donkey Kong is on with an axe, though Pauline drives him away. However, he later kidnaps her after Donkey Kong jumps down from the mast, prompting him to take the stick Mario placed to support it, and he and Clovis engage in a mock swordfight. This swordfight continues until Clovis drives Donkey Kong to the edge of a plank and the latter breaks his stick. Donkey Kong falls off the plank, only to grab it with enough force to propel him and Clovis onto a tightrope connecting the two unbroken masts.
Clovis disconnects the tightrope from his side, but this causes Donkey Kong to tear off the sail from his side, improvising it as a glider which he uses to drop him and save Pauline. He lands on the steering wheel, where Flint recognizes him. Clovis is last seen with Flint Westwood, where latter decides to rehire the former after realizing that he had underestimated his passion for acting.
