Candlebox - Candlebox
My favorite song on this album is You, as I feel that song is what I would write if I could perfectly convey my being to the world. Every song on this album makes me feel like I am home, they make me feel better. Every song reminds me of someone. The singer is able to produce such emotions with his vocals as to astound the listener. I believe this band is highly underrated and so is this album. The lyrical content is also fabulous, weaving metaphors into reality so well you'd think we were thick with them in our food. The music was very well put together, and everyone in the band is obviously a highly talented muscian.
Collective Soul - Collective Soul
collective Soul is another one of those bands I think is highly underrated. They have been constantly making wonderful music for years, and it often has highly successful radio play, and yet, hardly anyone knows who they are or acknowledges them. This album blew my mind as a child, and continues to do so. With beautiful instrumentals, fascinating lyrical content, a passionate and emotional vocalist, and wonderful affects, this album is worth listening to on repeat for days, at least. Any collective Soul, but especially this album, fills me with joy and is instantly calming. My favorite track being difficult to pinpoint, I will say that World I Know saved my life.
Adore - The Smashing Pumpkins
Adore is one of those rare albums that happens only if the artists are lucky as fuck. Smashing Pumpkins were most certainly that when they created this. Unfortunately utilized mostly as a 'break-up' album, Adore should be considered in the universal list of greatest albums of all time. There is literally nothing wrong with it, if you ignore the fact that it gets to be something you identify only certain emotions with, and so sometimes hard to listen to. It is beautiful, passionate, inspirational, creative, and it resonates throughout time, to say the least. I'm not sure what my favorite song would be, but Ava Adore has one of the best music videos and creative lyrical content I have ever encountered.
Thirteenth Step - A Perfect Circle
As far as APC goes, it is difficult to choose among their three (so far) albums. They all possess an amazing quality. Anything Maynard James Keenan is involved in is always very emotional, and despite knowing exactly what emotion he wants you to feel, you can easily identify and insert your own feelings into the music. This album is, on a grand scale, containing most of my favorite APC songs. Always intense, my favorite tracks include Weak and Powerless, The Noose, Blue, The Outsider, and Lullaby. To say the very least, everything about this album is absolute perfection. To say anything more(or even to say that) would most likely piss Maynard off.
Houses of the Holy (Dig) (Mlps) - Led Zeppelin
Robert Plant is one of my favorite vocalists. His ability to become what seems to be another creature while he sings is sometimes baffling, occasionally frightening, but always lovely and fascinating. Led Zeppelin as a whole possesses a charm that undoes the ages. They utilize everything at their disposal fully and well, and then continue seeking more. It is simple to feel the emotions Plant felt during the struggle of his late son, which occurred during the making of this album. The Crunge and D'yer Mak'er are my favorite tracks, because they are, in any situation, applicable. The album is funky, fresh, and undeniable.
Dummy - Portishead
Another of my favorite vocalists, Beth gibbons can change her voice in an almost magical way. I am not generally a fan of female vocalists. They have to be something entirely special for me to dig them. Dummy being Portishead's best album, in my opinion, it has many tracks that are worthy of recognition, including Wandering Star, Roads, and Glory Box; which is my personal favorite. This album is perfect. It is toned down, but intense. When she wants you to feel, you feel. The music is very well matched with her singing, and the lyrical content groundbreaking and sung in just the perfect ways.
