It makes no sense for a band with such a comprehensive and significant discography to be reduced to a single interview, which although they were wrong, does not define their art.

I hate to be bringing up Nardwuar but I really don’t get what people see when they say SY were horrible to him. In the first interview, he’s semi-trolling them and being annoying on purpose and they are responding in a fairly tame (if slightly too cool for school) way. They’re humouring him as much as he deserves. Someone who really didn’t “get” him was Lydia Lunch and she actually did kind of embarrass herself but I really think the SY interview was fine. Maybe I’m missing something, idk.

i saw kim gordon in an oil tank from world war 2, it felt like i was joining a cult and like half the people around me were gay and the other half was made up of random dads who like sonic youth and rich grandmas. it was a 8/10 experience, kim and her band are awesome but i was behind a pillar and a guy spilt his drink all over me right at the start

i'm not even 50% done a complete discography run for them yet, but after many attempts over many years my sense is that the early pretentious experimental stuff is in fact way better than the later pop refinement eras...which is basically never the case. it's kind of refreshing
