I think the point of this band IS the 'nothing special' as you call it. Its non-experiemntal, non-variety, yet its a fucking storm of painful riffs and violent shrieks. It reminds me of Ulver's 'Nattens Madrigal' in its force. The skill of pulling of such aggression without sounding sloppy is excellent too.

The fact (in my mind at least) that this is the worst thing Southern Lord has put out in quite a long time (well, besides those damned Gore records, which are absolute shit) speaks volumes about what a great label Southern Lord is, because this is still a very good record. I dig the vocals - they're not great, but are very fitting to the riffs and the rest of the music.
