A thriving and sustainable planet
One we safeguard and steward with urgency
Today, the world is facing monumental challenges that are vast, complex and interconnected. They’re too divisive to have simple answers. Too urgent to be postponed. And too big to be solved alone. Creating meaningful change takes a collective effort. Students working with communities. Clinicians with technologists. Sociologists with creatives. And engineers with historians. The biggest issues of our time call for expansive and interdisciplinary thinking. Working together means we are more than the sum of our parts.
Serving society lies at the heart of our identity and what we stand for as a University. For nearly 200 years, we’ve harnessed the power of our minds to build a better world. Our mission is to ensure that our research, education and commitment to service result in positive change and value for people, planet and society. This mission drives us to actively address the most urgent and deep-rooted global issues.
Service and social purposeWe believe in a world where people can enjoy peace and healthy lives. Where they can coexist with a thriving environment. A world where background doesn't limit opportunity. And where innovations benefit everyone, not just a select few. Our community identified five focus areas to strengthen our collective impact on local, national, and global levels. These priorities are: • A thriving and sustainable planet • Whole-life health for mind and body • Advancing equality and social mobility • Peace and justice in a turbulent world • Technology for good
