Dawn of the Dead (2004)
|
Dawn of the Dead is the 2004 remake of the 1978 George Romero horror classic of the same name. Directed by Zack Snyder, the film follows a group of survivors who take refuge in a shopping mall following a virus outbreak that have turned infected humans into cannibalistic zombies. The film's cast includes Sarah Polley, Ving Rhames, Michael Kelly, Mekhi Phifer, and Jake Weber.
The following weapons were used in the film Dawn of the Dead:
WARNING! THIS PAGE CONTAINS SPOILERS!
Pistols
Beretta 92FS Inox
Andre (Mekhi Phifer) uses a Beretta 92FS Inox as his weapon of choice. This gun is also used by other characters, mainly CJ (Michael Kelly) when he clears out the lower level of the mall of any zombies. Kenneth (Ving Rhames) also gets a hold of this weapon when he disarms CJ and holds it on him during the argument on the rooftop of the mall. Steve (Ty Burrell) can also be seen with a Beretta 92FS Inox with blued components (trigger, hammer, safety, disassembly latch, and slide release) when he gets out of the crashed bus, a continuity error is seen when the referred parts are stainless when he checks the gun's load.
Beretta 92FS
While the survivors are loading up at the gun store, a Beretta 92FS is among the weapons to be taken.
Glock 21
After the survivors load up at the gun store, several Glock 21 pistols are acquired and seen afterwards first with CJ (Michael Kelly) handing a pair of pistols to a wounded Tucker (Boyd Banks) to fight off the zombies chasing them in the sewers while they make their way back to the mall. CJ also uses a Glock 21 pistol as his new sidearm to take down several zombies and also to explode a propane tank while at the docks so that the zombies can't reach the remaining survivors.
Heckler & Koch USP
When Kenneth (Ving Rhames), CJ (Michael Kelly), Terry (Kevin Zegers), and Michael (Jake Weber) enter Andy's gun store to rescue Nicole (Lindy Booth), they find an unloaded Heckler & Koch USP lying on the bloody floor. This is presumed to be the gun Andy was using to fend off zombies while letting the dog Chips, outfitted with food, through a doggy door before being bitten and infected by a zombie. The USP pistol is also seen in the hands of Michael at the end of the film.
Colt M1911A1
At the beginning of the film when the zombie outbreak first starts, one of Ana's neighbors can be seen with a Colt M1911A1 pistol and threatening her to stay back before he is hit by an out of control ambulance.
SIG-Sauer P229
When the survivors are loading up at the gun store, a SIG-Sauer P229 pistol is seen being taken off the counter.
Star Model B
Ana and Michael are seen watching the movie Animal House where Kent "Flounder" Dorfman (Stephen Furst) fires a Star Model B loaded with blanks in order to take care of Neidermeyer's horse.
Revolvers
Smith & Wesson Model 27
Two of the mall's security guards are seen with Smith & Wesson revolvers, with CJ (Michael Kelly) carrying a Smith & Wesson Model 27 .357 Magnum as his duty sidearm during his initial standoff with the other survivors until he replaces it for Andre's Beretta 92FS Inox and the revolver is given to Bart (Michael Barry) to replace his Smith & Wesson Model 13. After a struggle ensues between the survivors that are currently in the mall and the former security guards on whether or not to let more survivors into the mall with CJ threatening to kill everyone to stay alive, when he and Bart get distracted, the survivors disarm both CJ and Bart on the rooftop, with Michael (Jake Weber) making the Smith & Wesson Model 27 revolver as his sidearm for a majority of the film until arriving at Andy's gun store. The revolver is also seen in the hands of Terry (Kevin Zegers) later in the film.
Smith & Wesson Model 13
Mall security guard Bart (Michael Barry) carries a Smith & Wesson Model 13 revolver as his duty sidearm before replacing it for CJ's Smith & Wesson Model 27. Terry (Kevin Zegers) is also seen with the Smith & Wesson Model 13 throughout the film given by Bart to assist guarding the new survivors. Because Terry is a trainee guard, he isn't issued a duty gun belt and has the revolver tucked in the back of his waistband.
Smith & Wesson Model 66 (Snub Nose)
Norma (Jayne Eastwood) uses a Smith & Wesson Model 66 snub-nose revolver as her sidearm. The revolver is also used by CJ (Michael Kelly) during the rescue mission to pick up Nicole (Lindy Booth) at Andy's gun shop and finally carried by Ana (Sarah Polley) as her sidearm when the survivors go to downtown.
Smith & Wesson Revolver "Non Gun"
During the fight to the gun store, CJ's hand is seen using a Smith & Wesson Model 66 "Non Gun" against a zombie at close range, temporarily replacing the Smith & Wesson Model 66 acquired from Norma. Later, while the survivors make their escape out of Milwaukee, Ana (Sarah Polley) uses the "Non Gun", also temporarily replacing the Smith & Wesson Model 66, to put a bullet into the head of a zombified Steve (Ty Burrell). This "Non Gun" was used because Polley was close to Burrell when shooting this scene, and at such close range, blanks can be considered unsafe, so a "non gun" was used. The Smith & Wesson Model 27 is replaced by a 6-inch "Non Gun" revolver used by Monica (Kim Poirier) in the bus scene.
Shotguns
Remington 870 (Police Magnum)
Kenneth (Ving Rhames) uses a police-issued Remington 870 shotgun fitted with a Surefire flashlight on the forend as his signature weapon. He uses it for most of the film until the survivors go to rescue Nicole (Lindy Booth). The gun is also briefly used by Ana (Sarah Polley) to incapacitate the undead Ben Cozine early on in the film.
Remington 870 (Express Tactical)
During the dash to the truck, Kenneth's Police 870 turns into an Express Tactical model (as evidenced by the factory-extended 7-shot tube) with the same Surefire flashlight combination forend. This weapon is seen when it is taken from Kenneth by encroaching zombies and more clearly in the extended version in a removed sequence of Kenneth shooting a zombie in the head at close range.
Customized Remington 870
After the survivors rescue Nicole (Lindy Booth) and load up at the gun store, Kenneth (Ving Rhames) packs a customized Remington 870 shotgun fitted with an extended magazine tube and Mossberg-style Ghost Ring sights (this is possible since some parts are easily swapped between Remington 870 and Mossberg 500 series shotguns) and uses it while the remaining survivors make their escape out of Milwaukee. Kenneth most notably uses this shotgun on a zombified Andy (Bruce Bohne). Ving Rhames also knows how to use the weapon effectively, because he doesn't flinch excessively and whenever he isn't firing, he demonstrates the excellent trigger discipline of a Marine.
Remington 870 (Non Gun)
When escaping from the gun store, Tucker's shotgun appears to switch from a Mossberg 500 Cruiser to a short Remington 870 Non Gun version.
Mossberg 500 Cruiser
Tucker (Boyd Banks), one of the survivors, has a Mossberg 500 Cruiser with a pistol grip. This weapon is also used by Michael (Jake Weber) and CJ (Michael Kelly).
Franchi PA8
When the survivors load up at Andy's (Bruce Bohne) gun store, CJ (Michael Kelly) arms himself with a Franchi PA8 with a factory folding stock and high-capacity magazine tube, and uses it while they make their escape out of Milwaukee. From the report of the gun and the look of the wounds it inflicts, it seems he is using rifled slugs.
Rifles
Winchester Model 70
Andy (Bruce Bohne), the owner of the gun store across the street, is armed with what appears to be a Winchester Model 70 fitted in a camouflage-painted stock with a folding bipod which he uses to play "Hollywood Squares" with the other survivors stranded in the mall on the other side of the street in which Kenneth (Ving Rhames) shows Andy a celebrity's name on a dry erase board, and Andy puts a bullet in the zombie look-a-like's head. CJ (Michael Kelly) later uses Andy's rifle to explode a propane tank to clear a path to the sewers for the other survivors.
Heckler & Koch G36
In the opening credits during one of the news broadcasts, a UN soldier in Istanbul can be seen firing a Heckler & Koch G36 assault rifle (fitted with a G36C-style carry handle) before being overwhelmed by zombies.
Colt M16A2
News footage shows US soldiers with the M16A2 rifle.
Colt M4A1 Carbine
During the opening credits, U.S. soldiers at the US Capitol use M4A1 Carbines with what appears to be Aimpoint CompM2 M68 red-dot CCO scopes to open fire at the zombies.
Machine Guns
Daewoo K3
In the opening credits during one of the various news broadcasts, a U.S. soldier (cameo by director Zack Snyder) can be seen firing a short-barreled Daewoo K3 with rail forearm, heat shield, vertical foregrip, rail-mounted rear sight, and paratrooper-style collapsible stock at the zombies in front of the US Capitol. The Daewoo K3 is likely supposed to be standing in for the M249 SAW Paratrooper.
DVD Special Feature "Andy's Terrifying Last Days Revealed"
An extra featurette on the DVD release features a 'recovered home video' of the gun store owner Andy (Bruce Bohne) and his dealing with the zombie outbreak from (mostly) inside his gun shop. In this featurette, the following firearms are seen -
Heckler & Koch MP5A2
In some scenes, Andy (Bruce Bohne) can be seen carrying around a Heckler & Koch MP5A2 with a Surefire forend weaponlight, but is never seen firing it.
Safari Arms .45
In some scenes, Andy (Bruce Bohne) can be seen carrying around a Safari Arms .45 with a Surefire 310R/610R flashlight mounted on.
SIG-Sauer SSG 3000
In some scenes, Andy (Bruce Bohne) can be seen with what looks like a SIG-Sauer SSG 3000. Although he used a Winchester Model 70 in the film, it's quite possible that it could have been one of the many other guns in Andy's store.
