Product Reviews and Recommendations At Health, it's our mission to inform and empower you with accurate, empathetic, and actionable health and wellness information that helps you make the best choices for your health. To help educate your purchasing decisions, we have developed a process for vetting the items we recommend. Our product recommendation and review process starts with market research and interviews with medical professionals and industry experts. We then test products—in one of three testing labs across the United States and at home. Once we've vetted and thoroughly tested the products, each piece of content receives rounds of fact-checking and review by medical, nutrition, and certified health professionals on the Health Medical Expert Board. While we do receive an affiliate commission on some of the products purchased through our content, our recommendations are curated based on performance, test results, and hands-on experience. Read more Our Testing Process Our team of qualified, experienced writers and editors thoroughly research the marketplace and speak with industry experts (including dermatologists, registered dieticians, and OBGYNs) on what to look for and how to evaluate each product. From there, we work with experts to create detailed testing methodologies that help us rate products for different attributes like ease of use, accuracy, overall value, and more. Then we develop a selection of products to test, factoring retailers, prices, user reviews, and brand authority into the process. While we may receive some products for free, we purchase the vast majority of the products that we test. Beyond the objective testing results, we're also noting qualitative insights. We take it upon ourselves to editorialize the performance data to provide easy-to-understand reasons you can trust our recommendations. We highlight what we like and don't like about each product so you can weigh the essential details against your lifestyle, budget, and needs to make the most informed decision. How We Make Money We receive an affiliate commission on some, but not all, of the products we recommend—but only if you decide to click through to the retailer's site and make a purchase. We only recommend trusted retailers with a proven track record for service and dependability. How We Find Deals In today's world, it's hard to know what a real deal is. That's why we scour the internet to provide you with the best deals we see in our research and alert you when the top brands have their yearly sales. We also constantly monitor shopping trends to tell you where to buy the products that can help you care for your health and well-being, including fitness trackers, medical devices, teeth whitening kits, toothbrushes, vacuum cleaners, and more. Our news and deals team writes about the latest product launches, sales, and sell-outs. We do our best to keep you informed and monitor the newest health and wellness-focused news and trends, so you know if the products actually work. Our writers live and breathe products, working with product testers and The Lab to share when they love a particular product. In addition to focusing on sales and deals, our team tests products and writes about their experience firsthand—from delivery to a year's worth of usage. Testing in The Lab Our primary testing lab—located in New York City—has over 7,000 square feet and two test kitchens. We test everything from electric toothbrushes to bathroom scales and thermometers side by side to see how they directly compare. With each test, we capture unboxing, ease of use, and comments from our testers through photos, videos, and written content to create the most comprehensive and transparent testing process so you know exactly how the products performed. In The Lab, our editors, writers, staff, and other testers evaluate products alongside and under the guidance of certified medical professionals and experts using detailed and medically reviewed methodologies. And we get creative with our tests, too. When testing bathroom scales, we're not simply stepping on and off scales—we're adding dumbbells and stepping on them with slippery feet to test for accuracy and safety. Testing at Home We know that all of the products we recommend have real-world applications, so it's also important to test products at home. And at the end of the day, the best way to collect performance data is in a real-life situation. Our at-home testing process allows us to vet delivery and setup and monitor how well things hold up over time. Do the best mattresses for back pain maintain their firmness? How do various weighted blankets look and feel after repeated washing and drying?Like in our testing lab, our at-home testing process involves editors, writers, and experts following our detailed and medically approved methodologies. Each tester fills out surveys, rates each product for key attributes, and captures photos and videos of how the products work and perform when used daily. Medical Expert Board and Fact Checking Before publication, articles go through our Medical Expert Board to ensure the accuracy and safety of everything we review. At least one member of our team of medical experts scrutinizes each article, vetting our recommendations for health and medical accuracy. We also rely on our team of qualified and experienced fact-checkers who provide a critical step in our commitment to content integrity. Fact-checkers rigorously review articles for accuracy, relevance, and timeliness. We use only the most current and reputable primary references, including peer-reviewed medical journals, government organizations, academic institutions, and advocacy associations. Read more about these programs here. Why Trust Health The product recommendations from Health are purely editorial. We occasionally receive products to test and review for free, but we purchase the majority of the products we test. And while we receive affiliate commissions on some of the products we recommend, we never let retailers, public relations firms, or salespeople dictate our content and product coverage. Before we begin a test, we conduct thorough and extensive market research—from reading the latest studies on product safety and interviewing experts (including doctors, licensed therapists, registered dietitians, and more) for best practices, frequently asked questions, and the most important things to look for in a given product. We are committed to ensuring that our content reflects the diversity of our audience. To do this, we do our best to research and test brands and products founded by people who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) and other minority groups. Click here to read our full commitment to anti-racism. Once written, every one of our articles is fact-checked for accuracy and vetted by a medical professional on the Health Medical Expert Board. However, you should consult your healthcare team to determine if a specific product—especially a product, supplement, or medical device—is right for you. Read more about our editorial process. After we publish an article, we don't just forget about it. Our team is relentlessly updating and keeping our recommendations fresh, accurate, and helpful. We also know how frustrating it can be to select a product only to find it out of stock. We try to mitigate this by having dedicated editors check availability daily to provide you with the best user experience possible. Safety As the health space is ever-changing, we want to note that all products, including those we review and recommend, may be subject to recalls or revised use recommendations. Therefore, we urge you to monitor any official announcements from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) related to products you purchase and suggest you register your purchases with the manufacturer so you can get alerted if a recall is issued.
