About Hyundai cars

Hyundai is part of the Hyundai Motor Group, one of the biggest companies in motoring. Kia and Genesis are within the same huge conglomerate.

Way back in 1947, Hyundai started out as an engineering and construction company. It wasn’t until 1967 that Hyundai started making cars, launching with a rebadged Ford Cortina.

Today, Hyundai manufacturers more than 4 million cars each year. Many of them are hybrids and pure electric vehicles. The company plans to have a zero-exhaust-emission line-up by 2035.

What our car expert says

“Hyundai builds small city cars, family hatchbacks, practical estates, and chunky SUVs. Impressive reliability and generous standard equipment make Hyundai models sensible buys, but hot hatches like the i30 N show that Hyundai has a fun side.”

Hyundai FAQs

Hyundai is part of the Hyundai Motor Group, along with Kia and Genesis. Together, the group’s brands make the third largest car company in the world behind Toyota and the Volkswagen Group.
Hyundai has three factories in its South Korean home. There are also plants in Czechia, Turkey, India, China, Singapore, the USA, and Brazil.
Yes. Hyundai is among the most reliable car brands. Look at any reliability or owner satisfaction study and Hyundai is usually towards the top of the league table. Don’t forget, the five-year unlimited mileage warranty is one of the longest around and should take care of any unexpected problems during those first five years.
Most Hyundai models will have a Kia twin. They look different inside and out, but the reality is they are similar cars under the skin. The choice will often come down to which has the nearer dealer to where you live, and which dealer offers the better deal.

So, should you buy a Hyundai Tucson or a Kia Sportage? Which is better, the Hyundai Santa Fe or the Kia Sorento? Read our full reviews to find out.
