Jaguar Type 00 concept revealed: a bold electric future for the British brand
Jaguar has revealed its highly-anticipated Type 00 concept car, previewing the design theme for its clean-slate electric models
- First glimpse of Jaguar’s new design language
- Striking Miami debut showcases ‘Exuberant Modernism’
- All-electric four-door GT to follow in 2025
Jaguar has taken the wraps off the striking Type 00 concept car, a dramatic design vision that signals the next chapter for the British luxury brand, and comes just weeks after Jaguar’s teasers and rebranding set social media alight. Unveiled at Miami Art Week, the Type 00 is the first tangible result of Jaguar’s transformation into an all-electric carmaker, embracing bold creativity while honouring its heritage.
While the two-seat coupe won’t necessarily make production itself, it paves the way for the design language of the three models arriving over the next few years.
What is the Jaguar Type 00?
The Type 00, pronounced “Type Zero Zero,” is a bold concept car that embodies Jaguar’s new design philosophy, dubbed ‘Exuberant Modernism’. It’s a big departure from typical electric vehicle design, featuring a long bonnet, fastback profile, and sweeping roofline. The sculptural silhouette is accentuated by 23-inch alloy wheels and innovative touches such as a glassless tailgate and body-integrated panoramic roof. Where there is glass, it’s flush with the bodywork – a design technique seen in the latest Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.
This design is made possible by Jaguar’s bespoke Electric Architecture (JEA), which will underpin future models, including the four-door GT set to debut in late 2025. This production car will target up to 478 miles of range under WLTP standards and offer rapid charging, adding 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes, and it’s likely to cost around £125,000.
What’s special about its design and interior?
The Type 00 sets a new standard for Jaguar with a dramatic exterior and luxurious interior. The concept debuts in two exclusive finishes: Miami Pink, inspired by the pastel hues of Miami’s Art Deco architecture, and London Blue, a nod to the shimmering silver-blue tones of classic Jaguars. Laser-etched brass ingots bearing the iconic Jaguar leaper logo highlight the vehicle’s heritage while housing rear-facing cameras.
Asked how the Type 00 will compare to the upcoming four-door GT, Jaguar’s managing director Rawdon Glover told us “You will see the lineage very clearly, the proportions, the pure surfacing, pared back and very simple, and you can take all of the iconography – the use of the leaper, the strikethrough, the face of the vehicle, how it plants itself, the longitudinal interior: a lot of those design features will be manifested in the vehicle.”
Accessed through lifting ‘butterfly doors’, the cabin is described as a masterpiece of craftsmanship and modernity. Key materials include hand-finished brass, travertine stone, and woven textiles. A brass spine runs the length of the interior, splitting floating instrument panels, which can be folded away if the driver wants to enjoy a “digital detox”. When they do, key information for the driver is shown on a slim display beneath the windscreen.
What does it mean for Jaguar’s future?
The Type 00 is more than just a concept; it’s a preview of Jaguar’s bold new direction as an all-electric luxury brand. Its unveiling coincides with Jaguar’s presence at Miami Art Week, underscoring the brand’s commitment to art and creativity.
The first production car to follow this vision will be a four-door GT, arriving in 2025. Designed and built in the UK, it promises to deliver the emotional appeal and driving experience that Jaguar is known for, while spearheading its transition into a fully electric future. Jaguar’s reimagination also includes exclusive brand stores, with the first opening in Paris’s Golden Triangle.
Teaser images and Jaguar’s rebrand has caused a huge reaction globally, with Jaguar recording more than 170 million social media interactions in the past few weeks. Glover commented: “Did we expect to be the number one trending subject on certain social platforms for a few days globally? Absolutely not. So it’s been a much more significant reaction than perhaps we'd expected. I think there’s an awful lot more people interested in what we do next. People are talking about Jaguar in a way that they haven’t talked about us in decades whether they like it or not.”
