  1. Hojlund goes downpublished at 18:01 Greenwich Mean Time

    Man City 1-0 Man Utd

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter at the Etihad Stadium

I suspect that is one of those incidents VAR won't get involved in either way.

Clearly Ruben Dias doesn't get the ball but he was trying to play it, legs get tangled and Rasmus Hojlund goes down.

Referee's chief Howard Webb always talks about most decisions being subjective and that is one. Some will think penalty, some won't. The game wants to stick with the referee's decision if possible, and in this case Stuart Attwell has kept well away.

Clear pen. How is Rasmus supposed to run with Diaz hooking both his legs?

    Freddie

Reuben Dias Didn't get the ball. That's a stonewall penalty. Haaland would have got it given down the other end!

    Paul J

Terrible decision he's took his knee and not the ball how's that not a foul?

    Man City 1-0 Man Utd

Manchester City win a free-kick. Kyle Walker hits it straight into a Manchester United player and it pings straight back.

That pretty much sums it up.

Kevin de Bruyne has a crack from range but it sails over.

Derby matches are always a painful experience for fans of the teams involved. This has been a pretty painful experience for the neutral as well.

Interesting analysis from former referee Mike Dean on Sky Sports. Gary Neville suggests it could be a penalty and Mike Dean says "not in a game like this, mate". Hmmm.

  7. 'I think there's something in that'published at 17:58 Greenwich Mean Time

    Man City 1-0 Man Utd

    Gary Neville
Former Manchester United defender on Sky Sports

It was clumsy, that we do know. It may have just been a coming together but Dias seemed to step across the Manchester United striker. I think there's something in it, his left leg goes across Hojlund's knee.

It's a brilliant save from Ederson and that's the sign of a top goalkeeper.

He did not have anything to do for more than an hour and then he has to dive to his left because that was going in from Amad Diallo.

Ruben Dias' left leg is across Rasmus Hojlund as the forward chests it into his path. Manchester United want a penalty but Anthony Taylor says no.

    Dias didn't get the ball.

Bournemouth and Fulham look better than both these two teams at the moment. And that's the reason City aren't being talked about as title contenders.

  11. 'Diallo has lack of fear'published at 17:56 Greenwich Mean Time

Amad Diallo has that lack of fear you have as a young player coming through.

You don't see the negatives. He is picking the ball up, running at people and trying to be positive.

You need players in your side who are willing to lose the ball in order to create something.

    Man City 1-0 Man Utd

Bruno Fernandes spots Amad Diallo in space in the penalty box and it's a good ball but the winger's header is well kept out by Ederson.

It looked like it might just sneak into that bottom corner but the Brazilian was there to turn it behind.

It’s tough for any mid-table team to challenge to top teams but this should have been the perfect opportunity for Man Utd to have a go at City. Instead they have drifted through a half of football without any attacking intent. Is that on the manager or the players?

You know before the match we were highlighting some of the most iconic moments from Manchester derbies gone by. Let's just say so far this game will be getting nowhere near any of those lists.

This is brutal from both teams but watching City playing this badly at home is making me nervous....and I'm a Liverpool fan. Matheus Nunes (albeit playing out of position) is nowhere near good enough.

  16. 'United not thinking of scoring'published at 17:52 Greenwich Mean Time

    Man City 1-0 Man Utd

    Leon Osman
Former Everton and England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim with Rasmus HojlundImage source, Reuters

Manchester United once again had the opportunity to play the ball in quickly from the break, but they slow the game down.

Five United players went to the corner of the penalty area and only one player, Rasmus Hojlund, was inside the penalty area.

None of the United players were thinking about scoring goals and Manchester City can defend easily.

  17. Postpublished at 59 mins

    Man City 1-0 Man Utd

Phil Foden somehow squirms through the Manchester United defence but ultimately has to play it backwards to Ilkay Gundogan. Cries of "shooot" from the home supporters. They have seen the German score a goal or two from that far out. Not this time, though, as it's bundled away.

Cpau089 on X: As a neutral this derby game is terrible. It’s making me miss the Tottenham vs Chelsea one from last Sunday and I don’t particularly like either of them either. At least they were entertaining.

  19. Postpublished at 57 mins

    Man City 1-0 Man Utd

Phil Foden picks up the ball on the edge of the area and tries to slot through into the path of Erling Haaland but it's the wrong side of the Norwegian and United are able to clear the danger.

There's really not much to say about this game at the moment.
