Review Miramar Hotel, Barcelona

Page Content

Miramar Hotel
Hotel Miramar has to be seen to be believed. It is a step back into the past - a twenties Art Deco style building worthy of the Great Gatsby, on a hilltop location. Visitors to the Montjuïc area of Barcelona are likely to have seen it. Montjuïc is one of the two large hills that flank the city of Barcelona. It is home to many attractions including a castle, the Miró museum and botanical gardens. The hotel sits proudly at the centre of all of this, looking down over the city and offering impressive views.

Its lobby area sits at the back of the hotel, accessed through the car park. A large water feature flows from above, with thick iron chains punctuating a cascading waterfall. The lobby area is large, with dim lighting and a subdued atmosphere. Cream marble floors are covered with thick black rugs. A bar area with low leather couches adds some diversity to the space.

Miramar Hotel is likely to appeal to those wishing for a complete breakaway. Its remote location ensures that it is picturesque and peaceful. However, it also makes it reasonably difficult to get to - access is either via cable car, road or an uphill walk from the funicular. Barcelona's city centre is not in walking distance. However, the luxurious facilities provided at the hotel may mean that you never have any intentions of leaving.

Miramar Hotel is located above Barcelona in the area of Montjuïc. It sits on the same platformed area as a café overlooking the city. It also sits in the same area as the end stop for the Telferic - Barcelona's cable car. The cable car travels across the city, to the area of Barceloneta, where the beach is located.

A ten minute walk down the hill from the hotel is the Miró Foundation. This museum features works of art from Miró. It also houses temporary exhibitions by other artists. Next to the Miró Museum, you will find the Olympic diving pool. This pool was built for the Olympic Games in Barcelona and overlooks the city. It is a place to enjoy as a swim, with the cityscape at your eyeline.

This area is also the home of the Parc de Montjuïc funicular stop, that runs from Paral.lel metro. A small cable car (different from the one mentioned above) runs from this stop to the top of Montjuïc, where the castle is located. This castle has an interesting history. It is also the site of a large outdoor cinema screen during the summer months.

The rest of Barcelona can be accessed via car or bus. Alternatively, you can take the funicular to Paral.lel metro station. From here you can gain easy access to the rest of the city.
