Ubisoft revealed yesterday that Star Wars Outlaws will launch for PS5 on 30th August 2024, but what's got its potential community talking just as much is the eye-opening price of its Ultimate Edition. Up for pre-order now on the PS Store, the publisher has slapped a £120 / $130 price point on the most expensive version of the game, which gets you access to the game, its season pass, and a bunch of digital bonuses. This is a notable increase compared to past Ubisoft titles.
So, what do you get for almost the cost of two full-price PS5 games? The base game is bundled with its season pass — which will add two story-focused expansions after launch — two cosmetic packs for protagonist Kay, her spaceship, and other vehicles, a digital artbook, and the chance to play the game three days early, from 27th August 2024. With the base game set at $70 and the Gold Edition costing $110, it means Ubisoft reckons the early access and season pass are worth $40. Those extra cosmetic packs and the digital art book then add an extra $20 to the overall price.
Compared to other Ultimate Editions that Ubisoft has offered in the past few years, it's a notable price increase. Here are some recent comparisons:
- The Crew Motorfest — £99.99 / $119.99
- Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora — £114.99 / $129.99
- Skull and Bones — £94.99 / $99.99
The only other time Ubisoft has charged such a high price is for last year's Avatar game, which even then, was priced ever so slightly cheaper in the UK. Residents of the United Kingdom have never paid more for a complete edition of a Ubisoft game than Star Wars Outlaws. Plus, you'll need to maintain a constant internet connection to get the game installed on your PS5.
Some of the uproar seems to stem from confusion surrounding what a season pass actually is, with some assuming it's more of a Battle Pass from a live-service game. While games out of Ubisoft have been known to use microtransactions, the content in Star Wars Outlaws' Ultimate Edition is all guaranteed content set to arrive either at launch or in the months after. The publisher hasn't confirmed whether it'll have a premium currency or microtransactions at the time of writing.
Still, it's a price point that's got people talking, and not in a good way. Some of the game's fans on Reddit are joking about going into debt after pre-ordering the Ultimate Edition, while others are warning not to commit any cash before release. There's also the option to play the game through the company's subscription service Ubisoft+ for a much cheaper price if you sign up for a month.

Ubisoft want $40 extra! to play two add-ons which are not available until after launch.
Maybe they should change it from Gold Edition to Pick-Pocket Edition
Honestly, what are these BS season passes on a singleplayer game, it is staggeringly toothlessly greedy. Guess what.. you're paid for the game you made, at the point of purchase, why are you still trying to drain peoples wallet after that point. This is not a F2P GAAS, this is a £70 singleplayer title, F OFF SCUM 🤣
If a game has a season pass or battle pass I know not to buy it.
And at the end of the day, people will pay. There is a saying in Bulgaria " It is not the crazy one that eats the bread, the crazy one is who give it to him". So, if people pay, why dont they. If people are so frustraited, then do not buy and if the sales are low they will refigure. They will only turn if the financials are hurt.
On the other hand, if the DLCs are like Cyberpunk DLCs ... then it is worth it.
It’s ridiculous.
Hopefully people have more common sense (sadly often appears not the case).
But it will be 40% off after 6 weeks
I'll pick up the season pass content later in a sale. Happy to pay sub £60 for the disc version from Hit.co.uk to get this at launch.
Blame it on the fools who are easy to part with their money...even as the biggest Star Wars fan in the world I'd never even consider buying this edition.
They’ve been doing this for a while since at least ac origins I think so I don’t get the outrage
@Shakybeeves dude are you new to gaming single player games have had season passes for well over 15 plus years now. Is Elden ring, HFW,Witcher 3 etc greedy because they give fans more content to enjoy
People will buy it if they want it at the end of the day if people don't Ubisoft will just drop the price their games go on sale quick
Can't say I'm that surprised.. Ubisoft know they have a cash cow thanks to the Star Wars license alone and will do their utmost to milk it dry..
As fortunate as I am to afford this hobby/habit, dropping a ton plus on an Ubisoft or infact any videogame can get in the bin.
I'm cautiously optimistic about this. I'm guessing it'll be essentially Star Wars - Far Cry. But the different planets should slightly differentiate it from other OW games. My main questions are:
1. Will the story be reasonably good
2. Can I ignore the busywork and/or grinding and still enjoy the game?
3. Will it have actual side quests like Witcher 3 etc.?
If it manages these, and reviews well, I'll give it a go.
Like anything, people will pay what something is worth. Let’s see if this is worth £120!
I’ve bought maybe 3 £69.99 games this generation. I’m happy to wait for something I really want, and this ain’t it
I paid £32.99 for the Batman Arkham Knight season pass. In 2015. That was 9 years ago.
Nothing is new under the sun.
@thefourfoldroot1 If a game has Ubisoft involvement I know not to buy it.
Don’t see a problem with season passes. We had those for more than a decade.
I usually buy them once the actual DLCs release. But I will first wait for reviews on this one. Ubisoft is hit or miss. Avatar was great, so I keep an open mind.
After seeing the price increase I'm more interested in this game.
Greed is massively strong
Expecting consumers to commit to expansion passes when they don't even know yet whether the base game will be good or bad...
If it reviews well I will keep it in my wish list until the price drops or a complete edition is released.
No need to play games day one and support this turd of an industry.
In other words: the game will launch incomplete as we cut content on purpose. So we can ask almost full price again. Remember when the would just make proper sequels to sell new content.
Will get the ultimate edition for 50+% off by the end of the year.
It's an Ubisoft game, it'll be half off within 6 months
Yeah, I’ve never been a fan of season passes, battle passes, gold editions, etc. It’s basically glorified Kickstarter support — giving them money months in advance to fund a project not yet released. Not to mention that maybe you won’t even end up liking the game, so you’re buying future content on a future game, sight unseen, that we’re not even sure is going to be that good. It’s like pre-ordering a pre-order.
No Matter how they Package it, it's like "putting Lipstick on a Pig", because it's a sad attempt at creating a Dressed up Excuse, for charging More for something that shouldn't be this expensive.
Should they charge more than just the Base Game, of course they should, but with it costing close to 2 Independently Fully Developed Games...Nope...Definitely too much.
I remember way back, when you would get everything this Ultimate package includes (Plus) Physical Memorabilia Gear...E.G...6 can mini Fridge...RC Car...ect... with Prices close to this.
Those Days might be gone, but these Pricing pushes are still starting to get seriously out of hand.
And Publishers and Developers Wonder why there's a slowing down turn in this industry with People buying less New games... it's absolutely Crazy.
Happy Gaming ✌!
They will have found a buyer before the end of the year.
Paying anything more than £20 for a game that becomes useless the moment the servers are gone is a complete waste of money.
AAAA+ game right there
It's Ubisoft. Aren't we all conditioned to wait a month and buy it on sale at this point? Will probably be $20 on black friday
It plays with the Topspin 2k game with 120$ version that doesn't include many stars. Just wait for a year, then buy it for a nickel. Outlaws looks bland and boring anyway. That whole 'story trailer' was terrible.
Friendly notice that Zoo Tycoon console edition has a 69.99 season pass that nobody is bringing up because small indie company. Gotta have consistent standards.
@Jayslow Ubisoft games are actually great value if you wait a year for the final edition.
I guess a price of 2 * 70 $ is justified if You get twice the "enjoyment" from this game plus season pass than from smaller "similar" games e.g. if the enjoyment from playing outlaws is similar to the enjoyment You would get from jedi fallen order and survivor combined.
Anyway pay according to what You think is a justified price. If You only try to make a bargain You will at some point only get bargain games.
I like star wars but dislike ubisoft so this is a hard skip for me.
I will gladly pay 120$ for high quality game. If it's as good as RDR2 i would buy it. Eventualy. But not if it's Ubi game. They have lost my trust
You play any of the 100s of games in your backlog and just wait till the end of the year and get it for $39.99
By then cheaper and patched.
Ubisoft games never take too long to hit the digital bargain bin. Usually 50% off within a year it seems.
I'm hearing that physical copies will require an internet connection to install. Something to be aware of for those with slow internet.
The can’t be bothered to ship on two discs so internet required changed me from possibly day one to maybe Black Friday.
@dark_knightmare2 "They’ve been doing this for a while since at least ac origins I think so I don’t get the outrage"
The price here in Sweden has more than doubled during the last 8 years since AC Origins... Maybe that's worth some outrage?
And the size/playtime/quality hasn't improved at all, mostly the other way tbh.
If the game is worth it, I'll wait for the inevitable Discounted™ edition
The Gold Edition is already very expensive here in Brazil. Almost double the price of the standard one. Well, I think signing Ubisoft+ will be cheaper...
Wait a few months to get it on Black Friday for $20. This game looks like it’ll be another AAAA flop anyway.
They do that to reimburse their failed pirate game, skulls and bones something...
Pre order the game if you must (or buy it on release -1 for the same pre order bonus' but after reviews)
But never, ever pre order DLC! Come on people. If you like the game then yes, buy the DLC when it is actually out 6 months or a year later for... £32.99 or if you like your game and DLC as a complete package, buy the game when the DLC is out and you will pay less anyway.
Ridiculous, as I said yesterday on the other article, as a Star Wars fan it will probably be a day one purchase for me but just the std game no unnecessary extras.
It was Ubisoft who put me off ever getting a season pass again after FC5, I had moved onto other games before the expansions came out and it was a complete waste of money!
I remember back in the day I bought a AC brotherhood (I think) special edition with a Ezio statue for 80 euros at launch...80 euros!!!!! Now for 130 euros you get nothing like that, only useless digital goods that when the game is long gone and forgotten you can't even show it or look at them and remember good times.
Sad how the industry is becoming so greedy
But Ubi put out Skull and Bones, which is AAAA quality for 70, so this game must be 5A quality!
Can't wait for this eventual price drop and a slightly less saturated industry, to be honest. Tired of so many (overpriced) samey games that rarely strive for originality.
@gaston well, that's not strictly true... Helldivers 2 is half the price of Final Fantasy rebirth, and arguably, they are just as popular!
It is publisher greed, thinking that if they spend lots of money, they can charge even more to make profit. But thus, as we see, it leaves every ship sinking when the customers are living in an economic recession and can't afford to bail those greedy corpos out.
Screw that i shell get the base version and get the other stuff when on sale.
And it seems that the game isn't even on the disk, just like Jedi Survivor. You need to download basically the whole game to play it.
My thoughts are it's a ton of money, but also, why would anyone pre-order an Ultimate Edition!? I'm not big on buying games that aren't even out yet to begin with, but then dropping another $60 on cosmetics and a Season Pass we know almost nothing about? It's just crazy to me.
Ubisoft will do this because they know some people will bite right now, especially since it's Star Wars. They also know most people won't bite at this price point, but, when the inevitable sales come they'll still be able to sell it all at a premium from starting at a higher MSRP.
Only season pass I'll ever buy in advance is for a fighting game, because, I want all the characters.
My backlog of games is too huge to be thinking about picking this game up.star wars outlaws looks really good.but Ubisoft games always goes on sales really fast.word up son
Any private company can sell product for how much they like, it's called a a free market.
Simply don't buy it if you think it's overpriced, problem is a lot of people have no self control.
Buy game when released, if good buy dlc when released
I usually pre-order games, and also usually buy the top edition if it is too include future DLC. I did it with Dead Island 2, for example, which then gave me access to two expansions. I paid considerably less with DI2, than Outlaws costs.
Bearing in mind that Ubisoft games usually go on sale within a month of release, this will be one game that I shall wait for a price drop for. Had the game been a more reasonable price, I would have pre-ordered it. However, in this instance, not only is the price ridiculous, but the quality of the game is unknown.
Upshot; I shall wait for reviews, and buy in a deep sale if the quality merits it. Way to go Ubisoft...
It's easy skip for me tbh, game doesn't even look that great. Worst case scenario, will just pay for uni+ for a month and finish it in a few days.
15 years ago I’d have paid that for a decent Star Wars game.
Since Disney destroyed the licence, I wouldn’t even download it if it were free to play.
But anyway as someone else said, it’s a free market. You can choose not to buy it.
If you buy it, you are casting a vote for more firms to do that pricing option.
In the same way those buying DD2 cast a vote in favour of more unfinished jerky games with MTX by stealth.
Choose wisely.
I'll probably just get a month or two of Ubisoft connect and play this, prince of persia and the skate board update for riders republic for like £15- £30.
