Good pay, working conditions, some bureaucratic inefficiency

Jan 1, 2023 - Census Enumerator in Sunnyvale, CA
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

The pay is high for an entry level position, and includes your training hours. Flexible schedule. Working conditions outside in the summer in the SF Bay Area were good for me, apart from wildfire smoke. The bureau allowed cancellation of work if the smoke was severe. Most household contacts were pleasant.

    Cons

On-boarding suffered from some duplications of documents, and the online training modules are quite extensive. The weather plays a major role in how your day feels. Some household contacts were hostile, but fortunately I never felt in danger.

    Beware Unless You're Permanent

    Dec 23, 2022 - Data Entry Clerk
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Decent health insurance. You get all the government holidays off. Pretty good leave accrual system.

    Cons

If you're a term or temporary employee you're just a warm body there. They'll move you around, lie to you about the job and what it entails and basically do what they want with you. You'll see people that are permanent employees literally sleep at their desks at time and do little to no work. The pay rates haven't matched similar jobs in the private sector for several years now. They'll often lay people off just before they'd qualify for a yearly bonus. If you're temporary and work over a year (via extensions of your "tour") you still can't get step increases, so there are no raises other than possible cost of living increases...so there's basically no getting a "raise". All of this despite the fact that at least two of their biggest locations mainly employee, at their peaks, term or temporary positions.

    Pros

-Flexible Schedule - You just have to meet the hours you need for the week -good communication with management -easy to sign up for

    Cons

The job is spelled out for the most part which is nice but if something occurred on the job that was out of the ordinary there wasn't much help that management could give besides give it your best shot.

Very flexible and well paid job

Dec 24, 2022 - Census Enumerator in Cullowhee, NC
    Recommend

    Pros

The job had very good pay around 17 dollars and hour. You could also choose your own hours, you simply logged in on your phone and worked whenever from 8am-6pm.

    Cons

It was a temporary job so it only lasted around a year at most. people were also sometimes hostile when you knocked on doors but other than that it was a gread job.

You need alot of patience and passion for the job

    Nov 16, 2022 - Field Representative
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

You have an opportunity to meet people from all types of: Racial, ethnic, professional, and social-economic backgrounds. You also have opportunities to establish relationships with them. Lastly, you develop skills that are in-demand such as: Problem-Solving, Communication (verbal and written), Data Entry, Marketing, and of course, Customer Service.

    Cons

This Organization doesn't care about the concerns of their Employees. There are alot of responsibilities that they expect you to execute that are unreasonable, but you are still expected to get the job done anyway. They demand you to complete alot of work in a short amount of time (and sometimes you're not correctly compensated). There are times this can be a dangerous job. With that said, it can also be a stressful job. I am NOT trying to discourage anyone from becoming a Field Rep., but wanted to give you my honest opinion.

mileage reimbursement for own vehicle use.

    Cons

Bad hours, expected to interview at night even in remote areas, expected to keep attempting interviews to the point of harassment, Limited amount of time allotted to each address not taking into account the distance involved between addresses and the time it takes to get there.. Expected to contact possible relatives , friends and neighbors for address and telephone information. There are times you are in potentially dangerous situations with no easy out. Rude aggressive people, bad dogs, bad neighborhoods.
