The effort and ingenuity is very commendable. But everything about Connecting - starting with the groaner of a title - is painfully on the nose.
The ensemble is so good, and the folks they're playing are so endearing, my only complaint is there isn't a way for me to join them for their next group chat...
Connecting... feels like another, maybe slightly better than some, version of something networks decided they needed without any corresponding audience demand.
Smartly written, funny and occasionally touching, capturing the need for connection amid the struggles unique to this period.
What sets "Connecting..." apart from most other entertainment about quarantine is that it is first and foremost a hangout comedy that just happens to take place during quarantine rather than hinging entirely on the conceit.
It's a worthy if sometimes obvious entry despite what might be considered a timely gimmick: The writing is crisp, the sense of comic/cosmic despair can be shared by all, and the editing... keeps things moving.
Some drug jokes in charming remotely filmed sitcom.
Too often, though, this feels like eavesdropping on conversations that aren't as interesting as the ones many of us have had during our own virtual happy hours.
Connecting... artfully taps into the rollercoaster of emotions we've all experienced in the last 8 months. I can't remember the last time a network series has affected me so deeply.

Nov 28, 2020Best thing I've seen in awhile! This is the first show this year that was funny and dearth with diversity in a way that didn't make everything into tropes like Fresh Off the Boat or Blackish. Beautifully representative cast dealing with real issues in a relatable way instead of pretending to be in a fairyland. I'd gladly signup for Peacock Premium to keep watching this show because I felt like each character was dealing with issues that I was dealing with, whether it was Michelle breaking from the stress or Rufus getting hair brained info that was later debunked. Great show.
