Tropical Storm Eloise: Gauteng is on alert

JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng emergency response team is on alert.

This is as tropical storm Eloise is expected to hit the country. 

Heavy rains and wind is expected in parts of Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo.

And while it is not expected to affect Gauteng, authorities say they have contingency plans in place in case a need arises.

"We have activated our contingency plans, not only to assist in Gauteng, but also assist other surrounding provinces," says Elias Sithole from Gauteng's disaster management.

"We've requested the department of health to bring medical personnel," he adds.

Eloise is now expected to bring heavy rains to parts of Zimbabwe and South Africa.
