British songbird Adele is headed for a world record and her album sales show no signs of slowing down.

The singer's third studio album, 25, was released on Friday and racked up more than 900 000 sales on iTunes alone the same day.

In the US, more than 2.3 million copies of the album were sold in three days, making it only the second album since 1991 to sell more than 2million copies in a single week. The single-week sales record is held by NSYNC's No Strings Attached.

The 27-year-old singer is also making waves in the UK, where the album is being tipped to become the fastest-selling ever, with 538000 sales in three days.

In South Africa, iTunes and hard-copy sales of 25 have already made double-platinum.
