The Fire Department indicated that they were notified shortly after nine (9) and their efforts to save the wooden structure was not successful.
According to one Fire Officer, the type of wood used to build the structure acted as fuel for the raging flames.
They only managed to out the fire but not before the entire structure was burnt out.
Although the structure of the building is still standing, the fire has rendered it unsafe and as a result it has to be demolished.
The cause of the fire is not yet known however the circumstances surrounding it is a source of concern.
The building was not serviced by electricity and there were no other propellents such as LPG gas in or around the Score Board Facility.
Cricketers who can still be found at the Ball Park during the evening hours could be heard speculating that the fire was deliberately started, possibly by a crack cocaine user.
They are also not pleased with the response of the Fire Department by stating that the facility could have been saved if the Fire Truck had only arrived earlier. "This is a lack of service" one cricket lover shouted while pointing out that three police cars were parked at the location of the fire, way before the fire trucks arrived. "The building could have been saved" he helplessly murmured.
With talk about a road to be run through the cricket field it is now not certain if the cricket association would be allowed to rebuild the wooden Score Board Facility.
