The best nature activities at Port Macquarie

Around Port Macquarie there's a network of rivers and canals, lakes and beaches that offer a variety of aquatic activities. Dolphins are a common sight all year round in the Hastings and Camden Haven rivers - they may even greet you on a dolphin-watch cruise. From headlands and lookouts, you'll also be able to see whales during their annual migration along the coast between May and November.

Port Macquarie Events

One of Port Macquarie’s most famous festivals is Tastings on Hastings, a month-long event held each October. Showcasing local produce, local wines and beers, and the skills of local and international chefs, this festival is a foodie’s dream. Tastings on Hastings features more than 80 exhibitors, cooking demonstrations, and live entertainment, with the stunning backdrop of the Hastings River area and Port Macquarie.

Festival of the Sun is one of the premier musical events of coastal New South Wales. Held each December beside the beach, Festival of the Sun features Australian and international artists. It has a laidback vibe, and is the perfect event for those who love music, camping and the festival atmosphere.

Port Macquarie attracts a huge variety of sporting events. Athletes from across Australia will descend on Port Macquarie in May 2013 for the Ironman events where participants will complete a 1.9 kilometre swim, 90 kilometre bike and 21.1 kilometre run.

Touch football is incredibly popular with the X-Blades National Youth Championships being held in September 2013. In support of the regions passion for touch rugby, Port Macquarie has been awarded with the NSW Touch Association’s Annual State Cup and the NSW Junior State Touch Competition, both occuring annually in February from 2013 to 2015. There are also the Australian Formula Powerboat Grand Prix (Feb 2013), and the Queens Lake Village Mixed Fours (Dec 2012) at North Haven Bowling and Recreation Club.

Port Macquarie’s excellent surf is celebrated at the Australian Surf Festival, which features the Australian Longboard Titles, the Australian Surfmasters Titles and the Australian Stand Up Paddle Titles.

Or if you fancy a flutter on the horses, check out Camden Haven Cup, one of the most popular events on Port Macquarie’s horse racing calendar.
