UFC 148 officially draws 15,104 attendance for $6.9 million live gate

The UFC's biggest card of the year unsurprisingly drew the biggest box office take of any of the promotion's events in the United States. UFC 148 officially drew a 15,104 attendance figure and a $6,901,655 live gate.

Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer on Tuesday emailed the figures to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

UFC 148 took place July 7 at MGM Grand Garden Arena and aired live on pay-per-view and preliminary-card fights aired on FX and Facebook.

The event's main card featured a middleweight title rematch between champ Anderson Silva and challenger Chael Sonnen. Silva won by second-round TKO and defended his title a 10th time to improve to 15-0 inside the octagon.

Initial box office estimates from the UFC were reported at $7 million on an attendance of 15,016. The revised figures represent an average paid ticket price of $507.25. According to the NSAC, a total of 13,606 tickets were sold. Only 64 tickets went unsold, and a total of 1,498 "comps" were issued.

The gate figure remains a box office record for the MGM Grand Garden Arena, eclipsing the mark set at UFC 66 in December 2006. That card, featuring a main event light heavyweight title fight between then-champion Chuck Liddell and rival Tito Ortiz, did nearly $5.4 million with an attendance of 13,761.

The MGM Grand Garden Arena's all-time top UFC gates as compiled by MMAjunkie.com include:
  1. UFC 148 (Silva vs. Sonnen II): $6,901,655 gate (15,104 attendance)
  2. UFC 66 (Liddell vs. Ortiz II): $5,397,300 (13,761 attendance)
  3. UFC 91 (Couture vs. Lesnar): $4,815,675 (14,272)
  4. UFC 71 (Liddell vs. Jackson): $4,304,000 (14,728)
  5. UFC 94 (St. Pierre vs. Penn II): $4,290,000 (14,885)
  6. UFC 116 (Lesnar vs. Carwin): $4,053,990 (12,740)

I wonder what numbers a Silva vs. Bones/GSP headlined card would do...

That's an average ticket price of $457.00 . They charge way to much for tickets in Vegas. I don't understand how people can pay that kind of money. I paid $150.00 for really good seats in Chicago which I thought was pretty pricy.

UFC 101: I paid $250.00 for a luxury suite. UFC 133: I paid $150.00 for the same seat as 101. UFC 128: I paid $275.00 for a nosebleed seat. I guess it all has to do with the quality of the card. Either way, all the tickets I bought were significantly less than the average for this show.

i think you will find that most of the major casinos snap up the prime seats and give them to the high rollers for free when thay gamble big money at there casino

I paid $600 a piece for my tickets. Pretty good seats.

I paid around $500 for 2 tickets from Stub Hub (although I should have gone to Ticket Master).

The MGM venue was nice; not fancy but we could see very well even though we were 4 seats from the back wall.
The crowd was very emotional (lots of Brazilians there) but there was not a lot of nastiness (unlike Dallas UFC 103).

Can't wait to go back.
It would be nice to check out The Mandalay Bay venue.

Does anybody know the PPV numbers or have they not been released?

UFC 116 (Lesnar vs Carwin), 1,160,000
UFC 66 (Liddell vs Ortiz 2), 1,050,000

Thanks, Whitewood. Sounds about right. Dana should be thanking Sonnen for those numbers. UFC 100 was stacked compared to UFC 148. I dont see 1.6 unless AS fights GSP/JBJ or until UFC 200.
