Deerhoof Reveal Fall U.S. Tour
If you haven't yet heard "Fresh Born", the first single from Deerhoof's forthcoming Offend Maggie LP, your mom wasted a lot of money on piano lessons. You see, Deerhoof recently posted the sheet music for "Fresh Born" on the internet, inviting fans to do their own versions of the tune before they've even heard Deerhoof's. (I believe this is the very same method Britney used when she covered that Joan Jett song so many years ago.)
But come October, Deerhoof will school us all with their very own "Fresh Born", and we'll know just what it is that's got Maggie so gosh darned buggered. The set is due October 7 via Kill Rock Stars in North America, with the UK taking offense the day before from ATP Recordings. For a taste of the new tunes, WNYC is streaming Deerhoof's set from their July 18 performance in Brooklyn's Prospect Park.
Note that the Offend Maggie tracklist has changed somewhat since our last report; we've printed the new, correct version below. (It has also lost its two-act structure.) According to drummer Greg Saunier, "In typical annoying Deerhoof fashion we sent the finished master to Kill Rock Stars three separate times, each with a different order. Every year I promise them that this is last time we'll do this to them! If you ever noticed that our lyric sheets are always out of order it's because this happens every time and the printing machine is already spitting out lyric sheets so it's too late to redo it."
Deerhoof, a little scattered? I never would've guessed.
Deerhoof have also charted out their fall plans, which find the band embarking on a Stateside tour in October and November. Before all that goes down, they'll hit the New Pornographers-curated Stanley Park Singing Exhibition up in Vancouver at the end of August.
