The San Carlos Apache
Reservation is a scenic experience, preserved in time, over 1.86
million
pristine acres of land encompass climatic regions ranging from Sonoran
desert to alpine meadows and ponderosa pine forests. The
area is blessed with a myriad of geological, historical,
cultural, and natural recreational attractions. Just a few
highlights are the Salt River Canyon, known as the mini Grand
Canyon, World Class Hunting & Trophy Fishing, a must see
is the famous San Carlos Apache Cultural
Center, real history from the Apache perspective, a
window to our past through present and future. The
Reservation has more than 100 small ponds as well as clean
lakes and streams, a virtual living oasis in the mountains.
Over
one-third of the community’s land is forested or wooded.
The diverse topography creates a naturally superior habitat
and sanctuary for
many wildlife species elk, mule deer, turkeys, black
bear and mountain lion are at home to these lands. A
portion of our reservation is joined with the largest
stand of ponderosa pines in the world.
The Apache
have a culturally rich heritage tied to the earth which is
evident to this day, our existence is steeped with thousands
of years of clanship lineage and knowledge passed down
through the centuries, we welcome you
to meet peoples of our community and learn of our culture and
