John Tate (talaffuzi: Jon Teyt) (1925-yil 13-mart — 2019-yil 16-oktyabr) — amerikalik matematik. Tate algebraik sonlar nazariyasi, arifmetik geometriya va algebraik geometriya sohalariga salmoqli hissa qoʻshgan. 2003-yil Wolf mukofoti bilan, 2010-yil Abel mukofoti bilan taqdirlangan.
Tate Harvard universitetidan bakalavr darajasini olgan. 1950-yilda Princeton universitetidan Emil Artin rahbarligida PhD ilmiy darajasini olgan[1]. Buning ortidan u 36 yil Harvard universitetida dars bergan. 1990-yildan 2009-yil nafaqaga chiqquniga qadar Texas universitetida ishlagan[2].
Tatening son maydonlaridagi Fourier analizi boʻyicha ishlari zamonaviy avtomorfik formalar teoriyasi uchun asos boʻlgan. Tate, shuningdek, Tate kogomoliya guruhlari asoschisidir[3] . Uning taniqli ishlari qatorida Tate gipotezasi, Tate moduli, Hodge-Tate moduli, Serre-Tate teoremasi, Shafarevich-Tate guruhi hamda Sato-Tate gipotezasini aytib oʻtish mumkin. Olim p-adik son nazariyasiga ham salmoqli hissa qoʻshgan. Tate qator matematikka ustozlik qilib, sonlar nazariyasining rivojlanishiga sababchi boʻlgan. Uning taniqli shogirdlari orasida George Bergman, Bernard Dwork, Benedict Gross, Robert Kottwitz, Jonathan Lubin, Stephen Lichtenbaum, James Milne, V. Kumar Murty, Carl Pomerance, Ken Ribet, Joseph H. Silverman, Dinesh Thakurlar bor.
