These fortifications, which began to be built from the Copper Age, are the answer to a need for possession and control of the territory linked to a greater degree of social complexity, with an ever-increasing hierarchy and the rise to power of persons or groups who very often show the possession of weapons and, consequently, can be related to warlike activities. In Sardinia, Nuragic phenomenon developed during Protohistoy: an extraordinary culture ranging from the Middle to Late Bronze Age (XVIII-XII centuries BC), some of whose features could last from Final Bronze Age until the beginnings of Iron Age (XI-VIII centuries BC), characterized by the building of great monuments, especially nuraghi, cyclopean-type constructions...

The site, formed of a nuraghe and a large village of dry-stone huts, has been investigated several times during the period 1982 – 2004. In 2013, a new excavation campaign was carried out inside of the circular dry-stone structure named hut 16. The first results seem to suggest that such structure was used for both food preparation and metal-working activities. Pottery chrono-typological analysis dates the use of the structure to the Final Bronze Age, in accordance with the general dating of the settlement.

Abstract: The archaeological site located to the south of the Nuraghe Su Angiu near Mandas has been the subject of three excavation campaigns between 2007 and 2009, thanks to a ministerial concession for the period 2007-2012. The impressive quadrilobate nuraghe testifies to the significant nuragic occupation of the site, followed by a phase of allochthonous use documented b...

The territory is located at the foot of Monte Arci, along the Mogoro river that runs through the southern part of the plain of the Campidano of Oristano. The area has been intensively investigated from the half of the past century; an in-depth stratigraphic investigation was carried out since 1994 near the nuragic site of Cuccurada, the main center of an articulated territorial system including a rich network of monuments related to the nuragic civilization. The results are illustrated through various research methods: GIS, with the application of spatial analysis tools, and multivariate analysis (cluster and principal components ana...

The morpho-metric and functional study of these artifacts al-lowed the identification of two mending strips and other remains related to Bronze Age (late II millennium BC) ceramic vessels reparing. Some uncertainly dated slags and metal fragments were also identified. Visual examination and archaeometric investigation carried out by means of portable energy dispersive X-ray fluores-cence spectrometry (pXRF) were performed on these metals. The analyses were able to relate some remains to iron manufacturing and highlighted the lead composition of the other ones. The chosen approach further clarified some as-pects of nuragic metallurgists’ behaviour in selecting and processing metalliferous geo-materials.

In particular, the great sanctuary of Santa Vittoria at Serri stands out on the homonymous plateau and exercises a control of the surrounding territory, corresponding in whole or part to the territories of the Serri, Escolca, Gergei, Isili, and Nurri municipalities. In this work, we experimented with an analytical procedure not yet widely used in the study of settlement processes in the Bronze and Iron Ages: that of Spatial Autocorrelation Techniques. The advantage of this approach lies in the fact that it not only shows spatial relationships, but does so on the basis of different values connected to the spatial data. Results showed that the Nuragic monuments were built near routes of passage so as to control the valleys below the basalt plains. This ...

Abstract: In the archaeological site of Cuccurada, in the territory of Mogoro, the researches have evidenced a pluristratified settlement, with phases of occupation of the recent Neolithic (culture of Ozieri), of the Eneolithic age (culture of M...
