In this verse, the priest Jehoiada tells some soldiers what they should do with Athaliah, who has just entered the Temple and seen that the young Joash has been crowned. The first part of v. 15 contains an enigmatic Hebrew expression, often translated as: "bring her out within/between/through the ranks." It is argued here that LXX-B , Aquila, Theodotion and the Vulgate reflect an earlier form of the text, which read "bring her out of the precincts (of the temple)." The second textual difference entails a long plus in the Antiochene text (LXX- L) and some transpositions. The very few scholars who mention this problem think that LXX-L reflects here the Old Greek, and that the Hebrew Vorlage of the latter represents the earliest form of the text. On the contrary, it is argued here that LXX-L constitutes a rewritten, facilitating text.

Endorsements:
“In an age of ever-increasing specialization, Matthieu Richelle exhibits his masterful control over both the biblical text and the material culture. Moreover, he demonstrates the value of studying the Bible and archaeology together, in order to reveal the most that we can learn about ancient Israel and its most precious legacy, the literary productions that eventually emerged as the books of the Bible.”
—Gary A. Rendsburg, Blanche and Irving Laurie Professor of Jewish History, Rutgers University
“Timely. Judicious. Lucid. A rising star in French biblical scholarship offers an excellent, up-to-date teaching book on the nature of archaeology, the evidence with which it works, and the kinds of insights it can provide biblical scholars. Richelle's welcome, moderate approach is exemplified in his superb survey and evaluation of contemporary positions surrounding the kingdom of David and Solomon.”
—David M. Carr, Professor of Old Testament, Union Theological Seminary
