About the TYPO3 Association

The TYPO3 Association is a not-for-profit organization, founded in 2004 to ensure the long-term development of the web-based content management system TYPO3 CMS. Close to 900 members, companies and freelancers have added their support to the association since then. The association's funds come from membership fees, donations and annual TYPO3-themed conferences.

In accordance with the statutes, the TYPO3 Association supports the free TYPO3 software project under the GNU General Public License. The TYPO3 Association serves the general public by offering software to third parties free of charge.

The TYPO3 Association is an association under Swiss Law. It is based in Baar, Zug, Switzerland. It is non-partisan and denominationally neutral.

In 2016, the TYPO3 Association founded TYPO3 GmbH (colloquially “The TYPO3 Company”), a fully-owned service company providing support and services.

TYPO3 Projects

Most of the TYPO3 Association's are focused on developing a of web-based content management system (CMS) for enterprise users. Its main product is TYPO3 CMS.

  • TYPO3 CMS is a free content management system for websites. It is the most widespread open source enterprise CMS. Approximately 500,000 websites have been developed with the CMS. TYPO3 CMS is based on the programming language PHP. The current version can be downloaded from the typo3.org download page.

Goals and Tasks of the TYPO3 Association

The TYPO3 Association furthers the development of TYPO3 CMS by establishing the necessary base conditions for the creation of successful open source software. These include events and education, as well as infrastructural support, specifically:

  • Informational and educational TYPO3-themed events.
  • Internal and external communication aimed at sharing TYPO3 knowledge and expertise.
  • Sustained long-term development of the TYPO3 products.
  • Securing of trademark rights in the interest of the TYPO3 community. 

TYPO3 Events

  • T3CON is an annual TYPO3 Conference for content managers, developers, decision makers, marketers, and IT experts. (Event organized by the TYPO3 Association)
  • TYPO3 Developer Days is an annual developer-centric event. (Event organized by the TYPO3 Association)
  • TYPO3 Barcamps are open conferences with workshops organized by the participants themselves. These take place several times a year in different locations. (Events organized independently by community members.)

The TYPO3 Association is a membership organisation. Our members pay an annual membership fee to finance activities, events and projects. The members’ names are published on the member listing page.
