Falling For Christmas Review : A plot too weak to fall for

Ever since Lindsay Lohan parent-trapped a pair of hapless divorcees, it seems that entrapment became part of the plot for many of the films that followed (Freaky Friday, Mean Girls). Keeping that in mind, entering this slightly disoriented world right before Christmas brings to you a plot that’s as weak in the knees as a swooning damsel.
The story starts with the introduction of the daughter (Lohan) of a rich resort owner who has an influencer boyfriend but isn’t taken too seriously by her father (Jack Wagner). Here, Lohan could have taken a page off the Hilton book, but chose to be loud and rather unpleasant, a characteristic that is muted to make her more appropriate as per the writers of the script who thought adding a dash of Santa magic would be a good idea to really spruce the predictable. What it did was make this plot even more unbelievable and predictable at the same time, because how else may one explain that a doctor lets her go after it is confirmed she has a head injury as well as amnesia, and all within the span of a day?
While Lohan tries to find her way around a completely new house, trying to help with the housework, the head injury of hers seems miraculously healed, enough for her to go out, enjoy herself, and many other things, all in the span of four days. All of this is in presence of her love interest, Jake, played by Chord Overstreet, who can’t seem to place where he had seen her, leading the audience into wondering whether amnesia can be transmitted through touching.
The saving grace in this holiday-themed convenience is perhaps the delightful Olivia Perez as Jake’s little girl Avy. George Young as Tad Fairchild is quite funny in parts, although the scriptwriter’s disdain towards his character can be deemed rather dated and perhaps is meant to complement baby boomers’ idea of what influencers should look like. A one-time, convenient watch for families during the festive season.
