DOHA, December 11. /TASS/. The Foreign Ministry of the Taliban-led government in Afghanistan (banned in Russia) has welcomed the State Duma's decision to potentially remove the Taliban from Russia's list of banned organizations in the near future, according to a statement from the department.
"We welcome the Russian parliament's initiative to possibly remove the Taliban from Moscow's list of banned organizations. This step will help strengthen bilateral relations," the statement reads.
On December 10, the State Duma passed, in the first reading, a bill outlining the procedure for temporarily suspending the ban on an organization included in the terrorist list. Such a suspension would be possible if there is concrete evidence that the organization has ceased supporting terrorism. Leonid Slutsky, head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), previously stated that the new provisions are intended, among other things, to facilitate Russia's legal cooperation with the Taliban.
