NEW YORK, December 4. /TASS/. The chances of a compromise between Russia and Ukraine are currently equal to zero as the positions of the countries are incompatible, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said in an interview with CNN.
"Chances for a compromise at the moment are zero. The moment people in Kiev begin to understand there’s no way Russia will go the way they suggested - there might be openings and opportunities," he said.
On June 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin held at a meeting with the Foreign Ministry leadership where he listed conditions for the settlement of the situation in Ukraine. Among them are the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Donbass and Novorossiya and Kiev's pledge not to join NATO. Ukraine should fully protect the rights and interests of its Russian speaking people. Russia believes all Western sanctions should be lifted, while Ukraine should commit to remain free of nuclear weapons. Kiev rejected the Russian peace plan. Following Ukraine’s major attack on the Kursk Region, which started on August 6, the president said there is no point in talks with a government that subjects civilians to attacks.
