There's not much people would be able to do with an IP besides that. If you're running a program which has traffic coming in and said program uses a specific port and is vulnerable due to an exploit, then your IP could be exploited, but only for as long as you have it. IPs refresh every 24-48h and whenever you restart the modem. Again, delete all of this if you bothered reading it. Or delete it without reading.
Even games that use P2P for combat, they may still rely on 1 person's machine for a specific thing, like enemy behavior. In DS combat/movement is P2P, NPCs will abide by the original player's game, which is ironically called "host" in DS.
CoD also uses P2P for some things like voice chat, voice chat doesn't pass through the server at all, from what I have heard. But gameplay is bound to the server, which is dedicated or listen. The only games which use P2P for the actual game too are like old RTSes and stuff, where latency doesn't matter much.
Ghosts, AW, BO3, IW, WW2 and BO4 still have listen servers if you play custom matches in MP or play ZM/etc.
I don't know about custom matches in CW, but public CW matches are all on dedicated servers and Vanguard switched entirely to dedicated servers, so even solo matches are hosted on a dedicated server. At least that was the case for Vanguard back when it launched.
A VPN won't keep you safe. The only thing that will is in-depth knowledge of these games or setting up a dedicated server. That server itself could be compromised by someone, but the server itself can't be used to spread stuff to clients, from what I am aware, that's how the situation is on BO3 with its online service. Servers are hacked, the actual dedicated servers, but they can't be used to distribute anything.
"ngl, this still kinda funny months later since people on the discussions page are still doing the exact same thing, and they're also the same people who wonder why the devs don't want to communicate through steam"
Yeah, I know lol, true. And the funniest thing is that it's always the same little flock of I-don't-ever-play-the-game-anymore chaps who somehow, despite their disinterest in a game, still spend multiple hours per week on the forum claiming how the game is dead. Illness 🙃
Saw you got to Prestige 10, congrats ✌
they're all in the everglades
