The Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit is a street circuit around Albert Park Lake, only a few kilometres south of central Melbourne. It is used annually as a racetrack for the Formula One Australian Grand Prix, Supercars Championship Melbourne 400 and associated support races. The circuit has an FIA Grade 1 licence.[3] Although the entire track consists of normally public roads, each sector includes medium to high speed characteristics more commonly associated with dedicated racetracks facilitated by grass and gravel run-off safety zones that are reconstructed annually.
However the circuit also has characteristics of a street circuit's enclosed nature due to concrete barriers annually built along the Lakeside Drive curve, in particular, where run-off is not available due to the proximity of the lake shore.
The circuit uses everyday sections of road that circle Albert Park Lake, a small man-altered lake (originally a large lagoon formed as part of the ancient Yarra River course) just south of the Central Business District of Melbourne. The road sections that are used were rebuilt prior to the inaugural event in 1996 to ensure consistency and smoothness. As a result, compared to other circuits that are held on public roads, the Albert Park track has quite a smooth surface. Before 2007 there existed only a few other places on the Formula 1 calendar with a body of water close to the track. Many of the new tracks, such as Valencia, Singapore and Abu Dhabi have imitated that feature.
The course is considered to be quite fast and relatively easy to drive, drivers having commented that the consistent placement of corners allows them to easily learn the circuit and achieve competitive times. However, the flat terrain around the lake, coupled with a track design that features few true straights, means that the track is not conducive to overtaking or easy spectating unless in possession of a grandstand seat

The circuit is located in Albert Park in downtown Melbourne, Australia. The nearest airport is Melbourne, around 22 minutes by car to the north.
It’s easy to travel to the Grand Prix on Melbourne’s public transport network with trains, trams and buses providing frequent services. There are several tram stops near the Albert Park circuit, which is two kilometres south of the city centre.
If hiring a car, don't forget to pay the automatic motorway toll, and have plenty of coins handy as most inner city parking is metered..

A free accessible shuttle service operates within the circuit to designated stops for patrons with limited mobility. This service can accommodate one companion carer per patron. Each vehicle can transport up to four people, including one wheelchair passenger.
Priority will be given to patrons who pre-book the service by calling Wheelaway on 1800 133 320. Accessibile parking spots are available at Gate 10 in the Village Green Car Park. A permit must be obtained through AGPC in advance on (03) 9258 7100.
Patrons may catch a train to Southern Cross Station (Spencer Street) or park in the car parks in the city and catch a free wheelchair-accessible tram (Route 96) from Southern Cross Station to the circuit. Tram Routes 5, 6, 8, 16 and 72 can be taken from Flinders Street Station at Swanston Street.
Patrons will be dropped off at Gates 1 and 2 (Route 96) or 9 and 10 (Routes 5, 6, 8, 16 and 72).

Access to the infield of the circuit for patrons with limited mobility is via the free wheelchair-accessible vehicles or through the two tunnels under the track.
Tunnel access requires patrons to negotiate steep and long ramps on either side of the tunnel. Seek assistance from security personnel at the event to ensure safe passage through either tunnel.
