Abstract
A reference position marker having at least three reflectors is fastened to an upper magnet of an MRI apparatus forming a uniform magnetic field between the upper magnet and a lower magnet paired with the upper magnet both being supported by a pole. A position sensor having a light-emitting device and a sensing camera is provided to the upper magnet swingably by an arm mechanism and vertically movably. The doctor holding a pointer having at least three reflectors like the reference position marker indicates the portion of a subject to be imaged by means of the pointer. Using the position sensor, the positions of the reference position marker and the pointer are determined. The position sensor outputs information on the position of the cross section to be imaged to a control unit of the MRI apparatus. Thus, the cross section indicated by the doctor using the pointer is automatically imaged and displayed on a monitor. While observing the image displayed on the monitor, the doctor can operate the pointer. A holding member for fixing an insertion member to be inserted into the affected part of the body of the subject being examined or treated is detachably attached to the pointer.
