To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EsLnn B. Earn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Garrettsville, in the county of Portage and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to holders for bags and other articles, and the invention consists in a device adapted to hold the mouth of a bag open for filling as well as serving as a means of gripping and supporting the bag while it is being filled, all substantially as shown and described and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the holder open, and Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof open as in Fig. l and having the band and engaging wire broken away on line aw Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the holder with a bag engaged therein, and Fig. 4 is a cross section corresponding to line %4, Fig. 1, but with the engaging wire raised.

As thus shown the complete device is comprised in three leading parts consisting of a bracket B, which preferably is cast in the desired shape and has a base or back portion 2 and two forwardly projected arms 3 of suitable length. The back has open slots 4: to hang the same on spikes or pins or their equivalent on the wall WV, and the said arms are bored or have holes laterally to receive the ends of the two wires C and D respectively.

E represents a bail, so-called, of a band shape in cross section and bent to an elongated form in its body while its ends 5 are bent back and engaged against the sides of the arms 3 where they are perforated and secured by the ends 6 of the engaging loop C passing through said holes and the corresponding holes in the base of said arms. The extremities of said wire loop C are bent at right angles into locking engagement on the inside of said arms while at the outside they have another right angled bend 7 over the shoulder of which said bail has its pivot and support. The said bail or band E is shown as flat on both sides but may have any other preferred shape which will enable the binding member or loop C to spring over the same and grip the bag against the side thereof. For this purpose I depend preferably upon a friction grip and the bag or other article engaged therein is held frictionally and not by means of hooks, projections or other devices calculated to injure the bag by their use. No possible injury can be inflicted on the bag by the present holder and yet it is effective and easily engaged and disengaged as is obvious. The cross rod or wire D is inserted through the other of said holes in arms 3 and projects through the same far enough to form rests for the bail E when it is turned down to horizontal position for use. Otherwise the said bail and loop C are turned up against the wall when not used, where they also are out of the way.

Usually in placing the bracket B it is put at such elevation that the bottom of the bag will rest on the floor while the mouth is gripped and distended in the said holder, so that in fact the weight of the contents will rest upon the floor for the most part. It will be noted that the practice is to enter the bag G, from the inside and turn the edge thereof outward and downward over the bail and then bring the loop C down over the outside of bag and bail. This makes a very firm engagement.

That I claim is:

A bag holder comprising a bracket having forwardly projecting arms, a bail and a spring wire loop to engage the bail and hold the bag thereon having its extremities projected through the extremities of said bail and the base of said arms and locked against the inside of said arms and a rod projected through the front of said arm and constituting a rest for the bail.
