CEMENT-FORM.
Speccaton of Letters Patent.
Patented. Dec. 27, 1910.
Application filed April 25, 1910. Serial No. 557,405.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS T. LEEDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at- Sioux City, in the county of Woodbury andV State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cement Forms, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to cement form holders in which there is a vertical adjustment of the form and attachments to gage the heights of the sides of the form. Means are provided on the sides of the form in which the holder may freely slide in setting up or removing the form.
The object of the invention is to simplify and facilitate the construction of cement curbing and gutter, thereby doing away with clamps and the driving of stakes on the gutter side of the curbing. This I accomplish by the construction of a form sup- Y port in the general shape of an inverted U and made from a T rail, one side being somewhat longer than the other.
I have illustrated by invention in the accompanying' drawing in' which- Figure l is an end elevation of form and support, showing a section of the curb and gutter. Fig. 2 is a plan View of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a right hand side view of Fig. l, or the side looking from the gutter. Fig. l is a left hand side view or view looking from the opposite side from Fig. 3, taken on line -y, Fig. l.'
Referring to the illustration, A is the holder made of T rail, the right or gutter side being about two thirds as long as the other and inclosing the board forms, E, E and F. The first two are the left boards and a stop D is secured t-o the holder A just above the top board E to prevent the holder from dropping lower than convenient for the con struction of the gutter. Guides or split straps B and C are secured to the respective boards E and E into which the long leg of the holder is inserted and held in position. The opposite board F is held in place by a gage hook H pivoted to the sho-rt end of the holder and adapted to swing under the board. A wedge Gr is secured tothe board F to make the holder more easily removed when the hook I-I is swung out from under the board. Eyes or staples M and M are secured to the guides B and C into either of which may be inserted the rod J threaded at the opposite end into a turnbuckle N, into which is also threaded the rod I. The latter is flattened at the opposite end in which is a hole through which is driven a nail T into a stake K driven into the ground. By turning the turnbuckle the boards and holder may be brought to a vertical position or the form adjusted as desired. The boards E and E both having the guides and the eyes, may be used interchangeably for top or bottom boards. In the stop D are two holes for the purpose of driving nails into the board underneath if necessary to hold the same in position. O is a sheet metal partition for insertion between the sections of curb and when removed leaves an expansion joint.
I-Iaving described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,-
l. In a cement form forcurbs, the combination with boards for inclosing the cement, of an inverted U-shaped holder one leg of which is longer than the other, guides secured to the boards on the long side of the holder in which the holder is held in position, a hook pivoted to the short end of the holder and adapted for adjustment under the board on the short or gutter side of the holder, and a stop on the long side of the holder adapted to rest on the top board inclosing the cement, substantially as described.
2. In a cement form for curbs, the combination with boards inclosing the cement, of an inverted U-shaped holder made of T rail one leg of which is longer than the other, guides secured tothe boards on the long side of the holder in which the holder is secured, a hook pivoted to the short end of the holder and adapted for adjustment under the board on the gutter side of the form, the board on that side being wedge-shaped or wider at the bottom than at the top to facilitate the release of the holder, a stop on the long side of the holder adapted to rest on the top board inclosing the cement, and eyes secured to the boards on the long side of the form for the insertion of brace rods, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto aiiixed my signature in the presence of two
