Description

O. M. BEGLEY.
UNDERGLOTHING.
APPLICATION FILED we. 19, 1909.
Patented May 24, 1910.
EM A mveugon I WITNESSES @aala w CAROLINE M. BEGLEY, 0F OAKFORD, PENNSYLVANIA.
UNDERCLOTHING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 24, 1910.
Application filed August 19, 1909. Serial No. 513,555.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CAROLINE M. BEGLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakford, in the county of Bucks, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Underclothing, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in infants underclothing and has for an object to provide a secure elastic supporting means for maintaining diapers, rompers and the like in place with the front and sides reliably overlapping, whereby in some forms the use of pins is unnecessary and by means of which the articles may be quickly, readily and accurately adjusted to place and easily removed.
A further purpose of my invention is to provide for the attachment of a diaper to a child reliably when the child is standing.
It further consists of other novel features of construction, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention, I have shown in the accompanying drawin s one form thereof which is at present pre erred by me, since the same has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of these instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
Figure 1, is a front elevation of a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same device.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings :-1 designates an infants waist having arm bands 2 and 3 and waist bands 4: which I have preferred to button in the back at 5 and to which I have shown the usual attachment at 6 for garters 7. Preferably between the top of the waist and the waist band and by the same attaching means 8 as that which holds the waist-band I secure elastic supports 9 which I have shown as three in number in front and two at the back. Upon these elastic supports I secure pads 10 and 11 which are extended upon both sides of the elastic support and sewed therethrough, which pads are provided with fastening devices in the form of a plurality of transversely secured buttons 13, by which the back of the substantially triangular diaper is secured to the pad 11, as best seen in Fig. 2, and by which the ends of the diaper which extend forwardly at the sides of the childs body are securely and considerably overlapped to provide additional warmth for the childs body and the end which passes between the legs of the child is also spread over a considerable width up to and including the top of the diaper as applied at the same time that the sides of this latter end portion are suitably secured about the childs legs. The result is a quick and positive union of the diaper parts to spread and maintain them about the abdomen of the child and means for maintaining them, so united, in yielding engagement with the body of the child.
In order to provide additional fullness relatively at the bottom I have provided plaits 15 which are held in place by stitching 16.
By providing a plurality-two or more of buttons it is possible to overlap the ends of the side-flaps of the diaper to a consider able extent, thereby insuring perfect protection for the abdomen against access of cold air through the joints of the folded parts and warmth by the provision of superimposed layers of material. By providing the horizontal row of buttons (in the illustrated form, two buttons) with a space between them, the front flap, which is folded up between the legs of the child is wide and affords warm covering and, also, has a substantial and close fastening, further preventing outlet of warmth and inlet of cold between the edges of the folded and lapped arts.
P Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a device of the character stated, a waist, pads at the front and rear of said waist and having elastic support from the same, transverse sets of a plurality of buttons respectively upon said front and rear pads, and a substantially triangular diaper having a set of button-holes at the upper edge of its back po'rti'on engaging'the but of hn'ttoIi-holes engagingthe butt0ns 'on the tons upon the rear pad, side=fl2rps formed front padtooverlap and cover the lapping with button-holes near their ends andhav-- portions of the side-flaps.
ing' such ends overlapped .to have thebutton- CAROLINE M. BEGLEY. ho e of each flap engaging the button upon Witnesses: the farther side of the front pad and having 'W. J AOBSON, a front flap formed with a transverse row C. D. MGVAY.
