Be it known that I, GEORGE A. ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Coal Harbor, in the county of McLean and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in' Harness, of which the following is a specification,

reference being had therein to the accomsuch construction as to afford great ease and comfort to the animal.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved breast collar; and Figs. 2 and 3 are detail sectional views.

In the drawings, the numeral 1 denotes the breast collar which consists of a broad band having its ends tapered and having stitched upon its outer face a strap or reinforcing member 2, the ends of which are also reduced and of the same width as the reduced ends of the band 1. Upon these ends 3 are provided suitable trace hooks or connections 4 adjacent to which are box loops 5 adapted to serve as keepers for the ends of the tu s. Upon reference to Figs. 1 and 2 it will e noted that the extremities of the reinforcing strap 2 are passed through the trace hooks or connections 4 and bent around upon the inner faces of the ends of the collar band 1 to which they are stitched as shown. This construction provides the collar with strong and durable ends and serves to effectively pivot the connections 4.

The collar is supported in osition by a neck saddle 6 in the form of a road band or strap having its ends tapered and bifurcated to provide diverging brace straps 7. The latter are formed with perforations to receive the tongues of buckles 8, one of which is carred by a short strap 9 which is secured to the collar a suitable distance from one of its ends by being stitched between the strap 2 and the band or collar proper 1. The other buckle 8 is carried by a strapy 10 arranged a suitable distance from the middle of the collar and secured thereto by the stitching which unites the strap 2 to theband 1. This strap 10 is also formed with a loop 11 to receive a ring 12 to which the usual adjustable neck yoke strap 13 is connected.

Upon each side of the neck saddle 6 and adjacent to its lower bifurcated end is a ring 14 adapted to receive the back strap of the breeching. This ring is loosely secured to the neck saddle by a leather strap 15 which is riveted, stitched or otherwise secured.

Upon the collar 6 is also arranged adjacent to its top a longitudinally extending loop 16 adapted to serve as a rein guide. This oop is formed by stitching or riveting the ends of the short strap upon the neck saddle. Engaged with the loop 16 is an adjustable check reii strap 17 carrying an eye`18 at its outer en Riveted upon the center of the strap 2 at the front of the collar is a strap 19 to which the martingale 20 is connected.

The construction, use and advantages of the invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. By removing the hames and hame tugs from an ordinary harness, my improved neck collar may be readily applied to the same by sim ly engaging the portions of the trace hooks eft upon the harness with the trace hook connections 4. Owing to the peculiar construction of the device it will afford great ease and comfort to the animal upon which it is used and will' not chafe or rub the same. lts construction also renders it particularly efficient when used upon an animal whose shoulders are sore from the rubbing of the ordinary neck collar.
