Description

No. 873,628. PATBNTED DEC. 10, 1907.
' G. E. STIVERS.
DART FOR BLOW GUNS.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 13, 1907.
WITNESSES INVENTOH To all whom it may concern:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES E. S'IIVERS, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
DART FOB BLOW=GUNS.
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. STIVERS, a'citizen of the United States, and a resident of Denver, in the county of'Denver and State.
of Colorado, have invented a new'and Improved Dart for Blow-Guns, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.-
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved dart for blow guns, arranged to permit the convenient insertion of the dart into the gun, and to insure proper binding action of the body of the dart on the wall of the bore of the gun during the prop'ulsi'on of the dart through the bore, thus requiring less physical exertion. on the part of the user for propelling the dart a long distance with great accuracy and swiftness.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the-same, which will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is re resented in the accompanying drawing orming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of-reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure'l is a side elevation of the dart inserted in the blow gun, a portion of which is shown in section; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the improvement, and Fig. 3 is an end view of the dart and blow with the point C forward and the base end of the b0 y A rearward, and the user blows into the end of the gun, then the air passes into the hollow body A, to cause the base end of the body to properly bind'against the Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed August 13. 1907. Serial No. 888.309.
Patented Dec. 10, 1907.
- inner Wall of the bore, thus preventing escape and insuring the full force of the air for propelling the dart forward through the bore of the gun D. Thus by the arrangement described the dart i s forcibly propelled through the gun and. to a great distance with great accuracy, especially as the base end of the body A. yields to any unevenness that may be in the wall of the bore of the gun, thus preventing leakage of air during the time the dart is within the bore of the gun. It will also be noticed that by making the body A of the dart of conical shape, it can be readily inserted. in the bore of the gun, and when the dart flies through the air less resistance is encountered. and the dart remains true in the direction of its flight.
The dart is very simple and durable in construction and can be cheaply manufactur ed. r.
Having thus described my invention, I
' claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A dart for blow guns, having a hollow -conical body of flexible material closed at the a ex end.
2. dart for blow guns, having a hollow conical body, the base end of which "iits snu ly into the bore of the gun, the apex end of the said body being closed.
'3. A dart for blow guns, having a hollow conical body, the end of which fits snugly into the bore of the gun, the apex end of the said body being closed, and a point attached to the said apex end and projecting forwardly therefrom.
4. A dart for blow guns, having a hollow CHARLES E. STIYERS.
